Lovely big open area, really needs some water stations so people can fill up bottles or drink from a fountain.

Dire, to put it bluntly. Poorly signposted, Map seems to have marginal resemblance to the actual zoo layout, some animals missing and others not where expected, and when a "kangaroo"was spotted wandering around the, now disused, go-cart track ! and pointed out to a member of staff, I was told in a very condescendingly manner that it "was a wallaby", its allowed to roam free and that "wallabies are small than kangaroos" ! ! Well I stood corrected ! but feel that had the "marcuiple / walllaby" enclosure still not be signed as "rhino's" and there had been a kangaroo in the go-cart track for size comparison, I may not have made that mistake. I don't think this is indicative of all staff, as two were very helpful talking about the differences between crocodiles, alligators and camen and onither was saw at a few at the farm interacting with my children. A lot of walking and expense for little return. Two stars for the two helpful staff.

It's a zoo with many plusses but also negatives. Catering is hard to find, we took a packed lunch. The consistent problem with ZXL is that they think they are a science body but everyone else thinks zoos are an entertainment - which can fund scientific stuff. We have had season tickets for years but don't feel very special - now have to queue up with on the day ticket buyers. The old elephant house, which is a listed building, is now very dilapidated with the back door left open. It should have been leased out as a restaurant but they are not very commercial.
