Because of an error I was threatened with a £70 fine at the Tesco Fire Station Car Park, Dunfermline. The PCN is excessive and totally unreasonable. It makes no allowances for the financial circumstances of those on low income or elderly. The signage in the car park was not clearly visible. There was no Customer Service phone number and a 30 day period to receive a response to a complaint by email. Your Parking Space incorrectly assumes that everyone has a smartphone and everyone uses the Internet. ALL private parking companies including Your Parking Space should be criminalised as their excessive 'fines' are nothing short of criminal. In Scotland parking companies cannot enforce their fines because they cannot prove who was driving the car when the fine was imposed. It is therefore deceptive and a breach of data protection for Your Parking Space to access DVLA records. In this instance I reported the matter to Trading Standards who acted on my behalf. The intervention of the UK Government will hopefully bring an end to private parking companies or at least outlaw the imposition of fines. The fairest solution would be to install ticket machines at car parks like those that already exist in multistorey car parks. The imposition of £70± fines represents the kind of unscrupulous people whose clear intent is to exploit vulnerable people.
