We went on a quiet midweek evening in May and had the whole place to ourselves. (Which to be honest we didn’t mind ). What this downstairs eatery might have lacked in atmosphere (buzz) it more than made up for in amazing food and attentive (exclusive) service from the owner/hostess/head waitress/bartender who looked after us. She shuffled up and down the stairs with aplomb and returned with beautifully crafted dishes from head chef (Makoto Kuwaki). Behind the bar she knew her sake as well as her Roku, and at the table could tell us where every fish, leaf and flower on the plate came from in her native Japan. It was clear she not only loved this food, she also loved her country. My only regret was that because we were downstairs and chef was upstairs we couldn’t engage more with him. But he paid us a special visit towards the end of the meal to do a mini Japanese tea ceremony for us. The expertly warmed ceremonial grade matcha mixed right in front of us was the perfect end to our 9-course meal. I won’t go into detail on how delicious each dish was, in part because it was nice to have a little surprise with each arrival. But mostly because by the time you read this the seasonal menu will have changed. Just go with someone whose company you enjoy and you won’t be disappointed!

Always fantastic food and service at YoKOYA - their new kaiseki menu (which changes every month) is both delicious and beautiful -- and the sake-pairing is a fantastic experience. We're blessed to have such a pearl right in the heart of Camden!

(Translated by Google) Thank you for your wonderful food, service and special time. I look forward to Chef Kuwaki's monthly kaiseki menu. Kaiseki, homemade desserts, and matcha green tea made right in front of you are all wonderful. Every time I visit the restaurant, I discover new things and reaffirm the splendor of kaiseki and Japanese cuisine. Sushi omakase restaurant seems to be the trend in London, but I hope you will continue to do your best as a Japanese chef at one of the few kaiseki restaurants. A very unique experience of enjoying Japanesse cuisine. The chef used to do izakaya and just recently changed his concept to kaiseki. As like a normal kaiseki once you had your dessert you can enjoy their authentic Japanesse tea ceremony. All of the food are good. Good selection of sake, you can choose a set of sake to compliment the dishes. Bear in mind it takes time, last time it took 4 hours from start to finish, and you can stay more to enjoy more sake if you want to....

Really decent! The omakase menu provides excellent presentations and good flavour in general. Service was top notch too! The wagyu and the black cod (supposedly the main dishes) were a slight let down tho! I feel like I can get better quality and size from japan centre easily.

The soup, udon and sushi are really good but I’m not a fan of kaiseki.

I was able to spend a happy time feeling the technique, flavor, and warmth in all courses. The alcohol was also delicious, and the handmade sweets and matcha green tea at the end after getting tipsy were exceptional. I will visit you again!
