Lovely place, historic and popular. First class food. Went on a Saturday evening. Packed out. Cars parked everywhere, driveway and grass. 35 minutes between courses. Expensive for me, not for the locals! Gave up waiting at the bar after 10mins. Plenty of good staff on, just victim of its own success.

Not been here in a while. Came out of the blue. Food was okay but to be honest I would have expected higher standards, not a lot of chips or mash coming with the meals, steak with quite a bit of inedible fat on it. But it was by the by… The bill was paid at the bar, after a good few minutes of getting coats on ect…. Meandering to the car, to be chased out by staff and accused of not paying! Having shown the PAID receipt there was no apology, we were just told “That’s fine, I was told you hadn’t paid. There’s been a miscommunication.” Never been treated like that before in my life. The situation as we were leaving was completely miss-managed in my opinion and the staff turned rude even after we showed our receipt. Will not be returning.
