So, working intensively for the week I opted for a stay in the countryside and not in a hotel. The surrounding area is absolutely stunning. On the first day of the booking I received a text message at 4pm stating my room was ready for occupation with all the entrance information. I had been up since 3 am so was looking forward to showering and resting up for the next days work. I arrived at the lodge to find the front door open and someone in the bathroom. It appears it was the handyman applying silicone sealant around the shower - bang goes the idea of having a shower, it had been a long hot day and I had been working, ergo sweating a lot. So I was advised I couldn't use the shower.. Sitting there smelly and frustrated wasn't the best welcome. The services are basic to say the least, the bed was, lets say old, pillows had zero firmness and were a mish mash of different types, the mattress had mould stains, but worst of all was the smell from the silicone. The lodges are very enclosed with little ventilation so the smell was headache inducing. I complained but was told 'the silicone smell should nost last as it was fast curing' The smell lasted the two days I was willing to stay there. Finally late in the evening, shattered and wanting to sleep, I gambled on using the shower, as soon as the steam in the bathroom took effect, all the fingerprints and hand prints appeared everywhere, the place had not been cleaned properly. I was told the cleaner would attend the following day. Trying to sleep, I discovered the walls must have been fabricated out of paper as you could hear everything from next door, from them walking around (creaking floors) down to his snoring! The following night I arrived at 7pm after work, to find the bathroom had not been cleaned, the smell of silicone was still in the air and my frustration went into overdrive! After complaining I received zero apology, zero offer of a financial reduction in the cost of my stay. I had paid to stay for 5 nights, I stayed 2 and thought it best to cut my losses and stay in a hotel. It is one of the worst places I have stayed, and I stay away a lot with work. It was my choice, I should have taken the previous reviews seriously, but didn't. What an absolute waste of money! Little issues - shower head would not fit the holder, bathroom door had been bodge painted

Damp and mouldy. Will definitely not be coming back. If i wanted this standard of luxury I would have stayed in my garden shed. The milk / coffee sachets were all out of date. The walls are so thin you can hear next door. A gap in the wall and you could see nextdoor s light on. The only thing that was good about it was the bed was comfortable so 1 star.

We used to love this place, been going once or twice a year since it was fairly new. It's in a quiet location, used to be good value for money, a little home from home. These days it's tired and smelly and too expensive. We won't be going again. Shame really as we have some good memories.
