FAQ

What type of choir do you have and what is the style of music that is typically performed?

We have a mixed choir that performs a range of classical and contemporary music. Our repertoire includes pieces from various periods and genres, such as sacred music, folk songs, and musical theatre.

How often do you rehearse and perform, and what are the expectations for choir members?

We rehearse weekly on Tuesday evenings during term time, and typically perform three concerts per year. Members are expected to attend rehearsals regularly, practice at home, and commit to learning their parts within a reasonable timeframe.

What is the cost to join the choir and are there any additional fees for performances or materials?

The cost to join the choir for a term is £60 for adults and £20 for students. There are no additional fees for performances or materials, as music scores are provided on loan and concert attire is purchased by members.

What is the process for auditioning and joining the choir, and what level of experience is required?

Prospective members are invited to attend a rehearsal to meet the conductor and choir members, and to sing with the choir to assess their vocal range and suitability. No formal audition is required, but some prior singing experience and basic music reading skills are desirable.

Can you provide references or examples of past performances, and what type of venues does the choir typically perform in?

We have performed in various venues in and around Wokingham, including local churches, schools, and theatres. Some examples of past performances include Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Requiem, and a joint concert with a local orchestra. References and recordings of our performances are available upon request.

A local choral society that undertakes three majar performances per year based on school terms plus additional performance in subgroups (such as a carol concert at the Wokingham Christmas Tree Lighting). They undertake a very professional approach to their rehearsals & performances and work at a very high standard. Please visit their website for details.
