I want to thank Kieran, the railway guard who was so helpful and polite . When my train was cancelled for over 2 hours he kindly organised a taxi. I was amazed and extremely grateful.

This station ticketing service proved a great inconvenience. I ordered a train ticket for my mum via the South Western website to travel to Basingstoke. Whilst ordering, I took the option to print the ticket at the station. I decided to go by the station Sunday evening to print the ticket so to avoid the Monday morning rush hour. There were no ticket machines available, all were locked away in the booking office and inaccessible. The next inconvenience came when I arrived there the Monday morning to print the ticket using the reference number. The machine wanted the card I used to purchase the ticket but silly me, I forgot the card at home. I then asked a staff in his glass booth and he was having problems with his machine. I then asked a staff who was controlling the gates, he helped by taking me over to the machine and although we got as far any entering the booking reference number still the machine wanted my card! He suggested I go over to the other platform and asked another staff who was in their glass booth. She tried also and still her machine was asking for the card!!!! 😤. It was truly ridiculous at this point. I asked her whether it's possible to travel with the booking reference number and she said no. (Talk about not trying to save the planet). As a last resort, I had to go all the way back home to get my card in order to print the ticket. All that time, effort and fuel wasted. What's the point of a booking reference number?? The card was not necessary because the ticket was already paid in full. If security was a concern, there could have been other security questions, but noooo, that wasn't an option either. 😤

Fails at its main tasks: clearly and easily telling people which train is arriving, when and where; then allowing them easily to board. The display boards are small and not obvious at the main entrance, they only show destinations (not the stations on the way). The route between platforms for people with luggage / walking difficulties etc isn’t clearly marked.
