Not impressed at all. The train station had no toilets open at all & no staff early afternoon today, this is just not good enough! It takes 2 mins to unlock toilets & lock again at night even if they were short staffed. This is not a third world country. To make it worse, I arrived in Margate & toilets on the platform closed as well! Shocking. Although Margate is normally excellent & very well staffed. Just had a response from them to say they are only open from 0600-12pm, so don't visit Whitstable in the afternoon. What total nonsense!! Further update.....I have now been told they are normally open until 8pm, but we're shut for a few hours due to lack of staff!! Unbelievable

Whitstable is a fantastic, traditional little seaside town. Situated on the Kent coast and famous for its tasty oysters, Whitstable has plenty of old world charm and is full of interesting shops, pubs and eateries. The beach is made up of shingle but it is very picturesque and is definitely worth a visit especially in the summertime. There is also a rather nice harbour area and a small pier which is excellent for 'fishing' for crabs on. In the summer the sea is actually pretty warm and it is easy to get in the sea and have a swim about. The sunsets here are also really nice as you can see the sun disappear over the Isle of Sheppy which makes for some especially good photo opportunities.

The station is very basic. 2 platforms, not going to get lost. You exit and its a 10-15 minute walk to the harbour or city centre or the castle or the beach. They have toilets and ticket office. Easy connection to several major London stations.

It's a railway station and apart from one asset is just mundanely the same as every other of its kind. So what's the one exception? Well, it's the unfailingly helpful lady in the ticket office. You'll recognise her by her bobbed, silver hair and sunny smile. I think her name is Kim. Also, she has a remarkably encyclopaedic knowledge of the railway network. I was there when a chap asked her the connections to some impossibly remote suburb of Blackburn. She rattled them off and the times without looking at the computer. Very impressive. I'm sure this lady must be there by accident given Southeastern's perverse commitment to dreadful customer service ... but nevertheless she's there ...
