FAQ

What types of gardening tools and equipment are available for use at your community garden?

At Westraven Community Garden, we provide a variety of gardening tools and equipment for our members to use. This includes basic tools such as shovels, rakes, and hoes, as well as more specialized tools like pruning shears and tillers. We also have a communal shed where members can store their own gardening tools and equipment if they choose to bring them.

How is the community garden maintained and who is responsible for upkeep?

Our community garden is maintained through the collective effort of our members. We have a rotating schedule of garden maintenance tasks such as weeding, watering, and harvesting, which are assigned to members on a regular basis. Additionally, we have a dedicated team of volunteers who oversee the overall upkeep of the garden and manage any major maintenance needs such as repairs or renovations.

Are there any restrictions on what can be grown in the garden?

We do not have any specific restrictions on what can be grown in our community garden. However, we do encourage our members to be mindful of their planting choices and to consider the needs of the community as a whole. For example, we ask that members avoid planting invasive species or crops that may attract pests or disease.

How often are community events held, such as workshops or social gatherings?

We hold a variety of community events throughout the year, including workshops on gardening techniques, cooking demonstrations, and seasonal celebrations. The frequency of these events varies depending on the time of year and the availability of our volunteers, but we strive to hold at least one event per month.

Is there a fee or membership required to participate in the community garden?

Yes, there is a small annual membership fee required to participate in our community garden. This fee helps cover the cost of maintaining the garden and providing tools and equipment for our members to use. We also offer a limited number of subsidized memberships for low-income individuals and families who may not be able to afford the full fee.
