I joined the club for a season back in 2001 whilst doing my teacher training and returned with my son (then 5) in 2015 having played at other clubs near my work. I’ve enjoyed returning to Westbury and have loved being able to coach in the academy, play league hockey, summer league hockey, and now back to league hockey with my son (long may this continue). It’s been a great journey and one that has many more years ahead; hopefully in the same team as him! If you’re looking for a friendly and positive atmosphere to develop your child’s hockey, a place to ease your way back into the game, or top level competition, then this club has it all!

Joined Westbury and United Banks about four years ago. Chose them over the other Bristol sides for my son, having moved from Kent and played for Holcombe. Was blown away by their welcome and the quality of their junior training. My son has now been selected for Avon Juniors thanks to their coaching and has played his first full season of men's hockey. They've also convinced me to come back and play after a 20 year absence from hockey, and I'm loving playing alongside my son. Such a friendly and welcoming club. What hockey should be about. Would recommend to anyone.

My son joined the academy when he was 6 and was immediately made to feel welcome, had loads of fun and quickly developed a passion for hockey. 6 years later, he still loves the games and is playing U12 and U14 and looking to join the men’s training and teams. The coaches are brilliant, really dedicated and there are plenty of matches and tournaments to get involved in. This is competitive but inclusive club, that also knows how to have fun! They are friendly and supportive of their players, young and old and have a great camaraderie with the ladies club (Westberries).

Having been a member since the early 90s it’s been a pleasure to play for this club, Great hockey club and open to all with fantastic social events throughout the year to keep us entertained! All different levels and ages play at the club from junior training and games on a Sunday , Walking hockey mid week for the seniors and mens hockey league matches on a Saturday! Most importantly great friendly people up for a laugh and playing hockey at a descent level.

I joined the club in 2021 after coming back from Uni and I don’t think I could have been more welcomed to the club. After the first training session, I knew instantly that this was the club I wanted to join - having already tried out a few of the other Bristol clubs around the area. The socials are always 10/10 and the annual tour is something you don’t want to miss. I also couldn’t ask for a better Coach - Alex is friendly and will always go out of his way to help individuals as well as the team as a whole at both training and matches. In only a year, I’ve learnt how to drag flick, aerial, and be part of an undefeated team all season! It’s also nice to see the Coach’s son on the sidelines when playing a game - a promising cheerleader himself! Finally, I’m also very excited to hear the news of the recognition of the Mixed hockey team with the Westbury Ladies this Summer (in addition to the Men’s summer league) - can’t wait for even more socialising and hockey this off season! Long story short, I’m very glad I joined this HC and I very much doubt I would get the same experience anywhere else in Bristol!

Both of my children joined the Westbury Academy U8's and U10's respectively in 2019 and were completely new to hockey. They are both hooked and train and play regularly. This is down to the excellent coaching team (thank you John. Bruce, Heather, Alex et al), ethos, facilities at Coombe Dingle and team spirit. I00% recommend!
