What is your school's curriculum and how does it differ from other preparatory schools?
At West Leigh Junior School, we follow the National Curriculum, which sets out the subjects and standards that all schools in England must teach. Our curriculum is broad and balanced, encompassing English, mathematics, science, history, geography, art, design and technology, music, physical education, and computing. We also place a strong emphasis on personal, social, health, and economic education (PSHE), which helps our students develop the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the modern world. While our curriculum shares many similarities with other preparatory schools, we pride ourselves on providing a stimulating and supportive learning environment that helps our students achieve their full potential.
Can you provide information on your school's college acceptance rates?
As a preparatory school, we do not have college acceptance rates. However, we work hard to prepare our students for the next stage of their education, whether that be moving on to a senior high school or continuing their studies elsewhere. We provide our students with a strong academic foundation, as well as the skills and confidence they need to succeed in whatever path they choose.
How does your school address and handle disciplinary issues?
At West Leigh Junior School, we have a clear behavior policy that sets out our expectations for student conduct. We encourage positive behavior through praise, rewards, and recognition, and we address negative behavior through a system of warnings and consequences. Our aim is always to support our students in making positive choices and to help them understand the impact of their behavior on themselves and others. We work closely with parents and carers to ensure that our approach is consistent and effective.
What support and resources are available for students who may struggle academically or emotionally?
We are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment that meets the needs of all our students. We offer a range of support and resources for students who may be struggling academically or emotionally, including small group teaching, one-to-one mentoring, and access to a school counselor. We work closely with parents and carers to identify and address any issues that may be affecting a student's learning or well-being, and we provide regular feedback on progress and achievement. Our aim is to help every student reach their full potential, whatever their starting point.
