(Translated by Google) Actually, we just came by here by accident. We only stopped because the guard πŸ’‚β€β™€οΈ set up. It was very interesting, but when a tank arrived, we knew someone important was coming. And suddenly Princess Anne was there and grinned briefly in our direction. Sat down with the previously placed guard and then was gone again πŸ˜… It was still worth it and was a highlight for my mom ☺️ (Original) Eigentlich sind wir nur durch Zufall hier vorbei gekommen.

Went for the changing of the guards. Wish the band had played a little more music while we waited for it all to begin. Then once it all started they were off and away to Buckingham palace so all the public lined up at their fence didn't see anything. They could have at least marched up and down their parade square once. Then millions of other tourist had arrived and you couldn't move or escape. So advice would be to line up at Buckingham palace fence.

After reading all I could about the best spots to watch the guard ceremony other than the palace forecourt, I selected the barracks followed by the Mall. The barracks were nothing special. As soon as movement began, a British tour guide with a right proper RP accent began loudly explaining to his group what they were seeing. Several people shushed him which made him pause only briefly. It was a cold, blustery day. The barracks movements aren't much, really. Only 10 minutes or so before they march to the Palace. Those 10 minutes are drowned out by tour guides. Had I known about this situation, I would've disregarded all the advice I read and heard and headed for the Victoria memorial! Instead, my Barracks videos contain a background track of "shockingly rude British tour guide" rather than the commands and boot stomps of the guards. I'm embarrassed to even post them. This spot is evidently no longer very good. Go elsewhere.

I came to this spot to watch the changing of the guard ceremony to get the view down the street with the Victoria monument in the background. It's a pretty good spot for a close up look at the Guard and hear the music before they head to Buckingham Palace. Wait here at the top of the road when they head back. My only disappointment as a photographer was that the big horse is out in front and the music sheet blocks the faces of the musicians. For everyone else, it is a great spot.
