FAQ

What certifications does your farm have to ensure organic farming practices are being followed?

At Wakelyns, we hold multiple certifications to ensure that our farming practices are in line with organic standards. We are certified organic by the Soil Association, and we also hold the Biodynamic Association certification. These certifications require us to follow strict guidelines and undergo regular inspections to ensure that our farm meets their standards for organic and biodynamic farming.

Can you provide information on the specific farming methods and techniques used on your farm?

We use a variety of sustainable farming methods and techniques at Wakelyns, including intercropping and agroforestry. Our intercropping techniques involve planting multiple crops together in the same field to create a more diverse and resilient ecosystem. Agroforestry involves planting trees and shrubs alongside crops to create a more sustainable and biodiverse landscape. We also use crop rotation and natural pest control methods to maintain the health of our soil and crops.

What is the origin of the seeds and breeds you use on your farm?

We prioritize using locally sourced seeds and breeds that are adapted to our specific climate and soil conditions. We work with a variety of seed suppliers and breeders to ensure that we are using high-quality, regionally appropriate seeds and breeds. We also save seeds from our own crops to use in future growing seasons.

How do you ensure the quality and freshness of your produce from harvest to distribution?

We take great care to ensure that our produce is of the highest quality and freshness. We harvest our crops at peak ripeness to ensure maximum flavor and nutritional value. We then store and transport our produce under carefully controlled conditions to maintain its freshness. We also prioritize selling our produce locally to minimize transportation time and ensure that it reaches our customers as fresh as possible.

Do you offer any educational programs or tours of your farm for individuals or groups interested in learning more about your organic farming practices?

Yes, we offer a variety of educational programs and tours for individuals and groups interested in learning more about our organic farming practices. We offer farm tours, workshops, and courses on topics such as agroforestry, seed saving, and organic farming techniques. We also participate in community outreach programs to promote sustainable agriculture and educate the public about the benefits of organic farming.
