I actually walked by it, unaware of its importance; I assumed, from the opposite side of the none-too-attractive ‘highway’, aka Platform Road, that it was an abandoned building area. A ‘garden’ … the council needs to improve it.

Alderman Vokes, a long-serving local politician, keen horticulturist and improver of Southampton's parks would be turning in his grave if he could see this. The "gardens" are no more than curved strips of stone of no architectural merit set into grass next to a busy road. From the top it's alleged that you can see the berth from which the Titanic sailed. In reality you can peer through high security fencing at a large yard of vehicles awaiting export. Turning through 180 degrees you can view the pleasing Queens Park, which Vokes no doubt had a hand in, across five lanes of traffic. The wear on the edges of the stones suggest the gardens are popular with skaters, which is something I suppose. Give this a miss and enjoy a stroll on the other side of the road.

Once a very nice area with colourful flower beds has been turned into a no interest walk past. Very disappointing use of land that has no use to anyone!
