Royal Tunbridge Wells is a vibrant place to base yourself and explore all the nature, villages and stately homes around. There is friendly staff at the new information point in the Amelia with some maps available upon request.

Very friendly and helpful service. We dropped in to pick up a map of local sites, the lady inside took the time to explain where local sites were and how best to get there.

Heres the story......A visitor to Tunbridge Wells (lovely place) This Young lady is strolling along the high street engrossed with her phone, a very common sight and she is not the only one engaged in this activity here, she is chatting face to face (on the phone) to her sister. She is passing the Jewellers shop... 'G Collins and Sons' which proudly displays it's "by Royal Appointment" badge. On display is a range of the most gorgeous jewellery 'wow'... do have a look at the website girls. This young lady stops to have a look, drool even, as any young lady would, while all the time giving a commentary to her little sister, there is a gentleman in a long coat, (concierge or security maybe greeter, it is a posh shop) walking up and down in front of the shop, she comments on this to her sister "that's unusual" when she is rudely interrupted by another gentleman saying "well you are taking photographs of our stock"... she laughed and showed him that she was in fact talking to her sister, they spoke briefly, she told him she had just moved to the area and one doesn't see that on her home town high street. Conversation ended with a "bye, have a nice day". He never apologised for interrupting her, or his assumption that she was taking pictures, (her sister was still on the phone)......This is the High Street, many people stopped to look at the shop display, some even did take pictures (perhaps to show the boyfriend their favourite piece, lol)........ The gentleman had come from inside the shop to speak to her alone, why was this little 5' 5" seven and half stone lady so noticeable, maybe it was her exceptionally pretty little face, maybe not.🤔. NO, Sadly not the end of it. This young lady, somewhat disconcerted went about her day. The gentleman went back into his store and called the police. What on earth had she done, for this could have been any one of us, well, the more polite among us, or maybe she just stood out somehow🤔🤔........20 days later this young lady was again walking along that High Street, NOT near the Jewellers BTW, she was wearing headphones, noticed people staring and moving away before being grabbed from behind by a Police Officer, at first very alarmed then relieved that it is a Police Officer, there are two of them, she removes her headphones and they tell her "you were seen on CCTV outside the jewellers with your phone a couple of weeks ago" she said "oh yes I remember, I spoke with the man and showed him my phone" she's practically apologising for a second time. She is asked where she lives and to show her I.D. She complied and is then left, Shocked, humiliated and dismayed standing in the street with people staring at her. This is the High Street, one wonders if in the interim weeks CCTV had been trawled for her to put in an appearance so they could swoop, she would be easy to spot, being the only nice wee black face on that street on either day.🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔.

Visited Tunbridge Wells with a friend from Worcester to see the Chaleybeate spa and 'take the waters' to find that everything was locked down and has been for 2 years. I understand it is a result of drainage work carried out that has ceased the spring which is absolutely appalling. What must foreign visitors think as well as GB visitors to find that the spring that supplies the spa has been VANDALISED and ruined. The Pantiles, however, look excellent as the last time I visited they were extremely shabby and most shops closed. Shame about the 1960's building at the end which I believe was at one time, suggested to be a museum and to be given a facelift to fit in more with the architecture of The Pantiles. The possibilities there are endless including accommodation on the upper floors, a museum for T/Wells and shops on the ground floor - a natural follow-on from The Pantiles. Could do better.

Called in to ask if the lady knew where I could buy a hairdryer, we were visiting for the day, she advised me to go to Boots, giving me a map but with no explanation of how to get there or how far it was. She then asked "Are you interested in history" in a very condescending manner....she then thrust a leaflet at us...she seemed far more interested in putting up a poster for a local event. We came away feeling very disappointed by her service..we visited on the 23rd July.....I am aware that it is a tourist info centre however I was a tourist and needed information. I didn't need to be spoken down to.
