O B
Be careful with what you think you have agreed with Valdas. In my case he agreed an initial fee for services, then sends over a fee proposal with a comprehensive list of what appear to be generic exclusions, but in reality they cover him for not actually delivering what is verbally agreed. Later when it’s discovered the drawings or services lack particular detail, the fee is disproportionately inflated with added extras. In my case Valdas was instructed to deliver Building regs drawings for the purposes of building control approval and construction drawings, however key connection details weren’t provided rendering them useless for approval and for the builder. Various professionals pointed out connection details are basic and fundamental for the drawings being fit for purpose for this type of project. Even though I provided written proof that showed I had asked for these details BEFORE he was instructed, he kept pointing to a clause in the fee proposal which says these are extra unless agreed. Surely by asking explicitly for these to be included, and a fee being agreed is enough. But no, Valdas insists on hiding behind a term in the fee proposal that contradicts what we not only agreed verbally, supported by text, but what shouldn’t even be excluded in the first place. Something which should be provided as a matter of course. This feels like a very greedy and dirty slight of hand trick, and one can only imagine similar tricks that could result in larger projects. Valdas’ attitude was to hold me to ransom for the details before eventually suggesting I find another engineer as he is now too busy, setting my project back and causing major expense. When politely trying to discuss the matter he hung up and ignored further attempts to resolve the matter leaving my project in limbo. After speaking with various contractors, building control, architects and other engineers, they all concluded they felt he was not only unprofessional but his design was not typical for residential projects and therefore cost hundreds, of not thousands extra in overdesign already. Now he has dropped me in it mid-build by incorrect and unfair interpretation of his legal obligations. In summary Valdas lacks customer service skills showing complete disregard for clients to the point of showing contempt, adds on fees which are unjustified and is happy to invite litigation rather than resolution, holding projects to ransom. He is perfect if you want delay, stress, hidden fees, incomplete drawings or overdesign which costs you more in the long run. *UPDATE* Valdas claims this matter is resolved, however this is not true. It was cheaper to agree to pay an additional fee as I was held to ransom and instructing a new engineer would have been more costly. Even though an additional fee was paid under duress, Valdas followed up with a court claim complaining the additional fee, which should never have been paid to begin with, was supposedly paid a few days late. That is the level of pettiness and inconvenience that you may face when dealing with this company. Never known anything like it.
