A very pleasant stay in a superb location, handily placed with a shop next door and 3 pubs around the corner. Less than a mile to cod beck reservoir which is a lovely lake to walk around. The cottage is very clean and the owners could not have been more helpful and easy to deal with. With secure off road parking behind electronic gates. The lounge is quite small but adequate. The bedroom is very spacious. The bedding, curtains and even the headboard are all matching and of high quality. The only thing that could put off some people is that the stairs double as an emergency fire exit for the attached b and b. We didn't find this a problem, as it was strictly for emergency use only and no one used it during our stay.

Stayed here with my husband whilst doing the coast to coast. The location is great, but that's the only positive. The owner wasn't rude, but he also wasn't welcoming. The room was to small for two people. I couldn't even walk around the side of the bed. The carpets need a good vacuum and cleaning. The shelves next to the bed haven't been dusted in forever. On the bright side the shower was good. Breakfast was just awful. The cereal tasted old, the fruit salad came out of a can and the coffee was probably the worst I have had in any B&B. The most expensive B&B on the trip and by far the most disappointing. Definitely on the bottom of my list for a positive experience. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Not sure how much fun the owner has either. Maybe it's time to call it a day.

Being on the C2C now for quite a while and having seen many B&Bs on the way, Vane House ranges amongst the less memorable experiences. It was by far the most expensive stay on the trail and so expectations were accordingly. Unfortunately none of them were honoured. The room was the size of a shoe box, with no place for our stuff to put. The bathroom is actually really nice and there is nothing to complain about. I wasn't sure if the bed had really a clean cover - normally you would get a sheet between bed and blanket. There were stains on the blanket. Otherwise the room was clean. Breakfast was spartan - we don't have anything cooked, so we were hoping for cereal, fruit and joghurt. There was a selection of canned fruit and no joghurt. Hospitality was below average. Price/value does not match at all. Not recommended.

This was our worst accommodation on our C2C hike. We were greeted by a "get your boots off" with no place to sit, inhospitable greeting, to be shown our cramped room. No local knowledge was shared and tea wasn't offered. Upon returning from dinner, we were bombarded in our room with a request to pay in full, in cash for our lodgings. As we had planned to use a credit card, this was more than a hassle. This was one of our most expensive accommodations and so not worth it. Sour memories linger.
