So I was drawn in by the bold sign on the window 'large fish & chips £5'. I visited 15.03.22 at around 13:30. The shop was empty (literally the shop was empty). The hot counters that normally have fish, pies, sausages... were completely empty. I ordered my fish and chips, the lady serving had to call the owner as she wasn't sure what to input into the till (here's me think it would be a popular choice being a fish & chip shop!) The lady went out the back and I heard an almighty splash of water. At first I thought she was catching my fish from the canal that runs nearby... but no, she took the fish from the refrigerator, whilst walking through the puddles of water she'd spilt. She then got the batter mix and battered it, as well as throwing some chips into a bucket ready for frying. She then slipped on the water she's spilt before putting my things into the fryer. Whilst standing there waiting, I noticed some other observations.... The first being the shop door was actually on the floor inside the chip shop, on its side. Such a strange sight so I enquired why the door had been removed. She said that it has been broken for some time now. Another observation I noticed was the vinegar was stored in household spray bottles (like cleaning spray bottles) it didn't look the most appealing. The menu was very random... usual fish & chip items, a wide variety of kebabs, some Asian inspired items on the menu... and my favourite that I noticed.... 'Sunday roast dinner £3 each or 2 for £5'. I was baffled by this! After waiting around 15 minutes my fish and chips was ready. I took it home, not knowing what to expect, given my experience so far. The taste.... chips were fine, cooked well and tasted fine. The batter on the fish was too thick. This made the fish inside the batter very greasy, so much so that I couldn't eat it. The fish wasn't flakey inside, it just wasn't very pleasant at all. The curry sauce had a similar consistency to water... clearly had been watered down to go further. This did not taste great either. Overall, the shop doesn't look appealing.. the door inside the shop propped against the wall. The lady serving, although friendly seemed inexperienced and thrown in the deep end as she was working alone. Food not great, especially the fish & curry sauce which in my option are the essentials for any fish and chip shop!
