Nice staff, quick to serve food, no long waits at the bar despite busy sunny Saturday evening rush and a private event. The tables at the front have a lovely view onto the green, where you might be able to spectate a (bad) game of cricket, if it weren’t for the cars in the way! The food is pretty standard pub fare; I went for the specials and unfortunately my seafood grill was very under-seasoned (please salt your potatoes, chef) but well cooked otherwise. The Eton mess pancake was okay - pancakes themselves were spongy not fluffy, and the Eton mess not really doing much, but good clotted cream ice cream. Great location, fab service, good but not excellent food - I’ll visit again if I am passing by but can’t enthusiastically recommend.

Beautiful village. Evening meal and breakfast were beautiful. The place is a bit tired. Rooms could do with updating. Having said that they were clean and tidy. Perfect location for Harry Potter Studios Rooms: Needs updating but clean Nearby activities: Harry potter studios Food & drinks: Tasty and good value

Stayed for 2 nights whilst going to the Harry Potter tour. On the Friday night we stayed in the hotel for something to eat. The food was tasty, hot and arrived in good time. The staff were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. We also had breakfast on both mornings and again it was tasty, hot and arrived in good time and the staff cluldnt do enough for you. It seemed to be locally sourced food for the breakfast too as the bacon and the sausage were delicious! The only down side to this hotel was the rooms and common areas in the hotel not being modernised. The hallways and the rooms are dated and had a vague tinge of "old" to them, the wallpaper had peeled in places and had been stuck back to tthe wall by the looks of it. The bathroom was in dire need of updating as there was mismatched tiles and some were missing, it was all just very dated. The one redeeming feature of the room was the bed, one of the comfiest I've slept in and I wish I could of brought it home with me!! That being said, I would be happy to overlook the dated rooms to come back and stay as the staff/restaurant/bed made up for it! If the rooms were updated I can imagine it would be fully booked all the time as its in a fantastic location to go and explore/go to the Harry Potter tour and the food/staff are top notch!

Stayed at this delightful pub for one night. One arrival the room (as mentioned in a previous review) had a faint musty smell. The room itself was clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable and I was glad to see two armchairs instead of one upright chair you find in chain hotels. However, the room needed a bit of TLC as evidenced by attached photos, peeling wallpaper warped shelves and chipped bath, do not do any favours! On the more positive side best steak I have had for a while. Overall a pleasant place to stay would definitely recommend you visit.

Driest mixed grill I've eaten, steak overcooked twice, waitress uninterested. No apology from staff, no manager on duty. The meal was removed from the bill but not a great experience. Lack of staff training in dealing with complaints.
