FAQ

What type of choir do you have and what is the style of music that is typically performed?

We have a Tuneless Choir, which is a choir for anyone who loves singing but might not have the confidence, ability, or desire to sing in a traditional choir. Our choir is unique because we embrace the fact that not everyone can sing in tune, and we make it our mission to have fun singing together regardless of our abilities. We sing a variety of popular songs from different eras and genres, and we always make sure our music is uplifting and enjoyable.

How often do you rehearse and perform, and what are the expectations for choir members?

We typically rehearse once a week, and we perform a few times a year at local events and venues. We understand that our choir members have busy lives, so we don't require any commitment beyond showing up to rehearsals and performances when they can. We don't have any expectations for our choir members other than being willing to sing and have fun with us.

What is the cost to join the choir and are there any additional fees for performances or materials?

The cost to join our choir varies depending on location, but it's usually around £10 per session. There are no additional fees for performances or materials - we provide everything our choir members need to sing with us.

What is the process for auditioning and joining the choir, and what level of experience is required?

There is no audition process to join our choir - we welcome anyone who loves singing and wants to have fun with us. To join, all you need to do is show up to one of our rehearsals and pay the session fee. We don't require any prior singing experience or ability to read music.

Can you provide references or examples of past performances, and what type of venues does the choir typically perform in?

Yes, we can provide references and examples of past performances upon request. Our choir typically performs at local events, such as charity fundraisers, community festivals, and holiday celebrations. We also perform at nursing homes and hospitals to bring joy to those who may not be able to attend our public performances.

I joined Lucy's Pop Choir because I enjoy singing and it's more fun to do it with others. Eli is a great teacher, she gets the quality from us but with fun and no pressure of formal concerts but informal gigs. I love that there are no formal concerts where you have to be word perfect, and we have more relaxed choir meetings. I sing more confidently now and of course have got to know more people. If you want a fun, relaxed sing along then join us, if you want a more formal structured choir then no.

I have always loved singing and I was new to the area, so Lucy's Pop Choir was the perfect solution. We all have a lot of fun getting to know each other and tackling harmonies. Hearing it all come together is the best sound in the world! I've sung as a semi-pro in bands and done backing vocals a very long time ago but never as part of a choir. This is SO much more fun! Hearing the finished product when we all play our part is magical! It gives me something to look forward to every week. If you're thinking of joining then do it! Singing is good for the soul and feel good endorphins flow! It's the best thing ever! Doesn't matter how good you are - we're a team and it all comes together beautifully!

I wanted to join a choir to make new friends, and sing, loud and proud! Lucy's Pop Choir has a good range of songs, an enthusiastic leader and friendly people. I love belting out songs and the social interaction. It's great to have a chance to sing with others. Come along and give it a try!

I haven't sung in a choir since I was at school, but I wanted to get out of the house more and I enjoy singing, so I decided to give Lucy's Pop Choir a go. That was 4 years ago! It's so friendly and welcoming, our choir director Eli is one of the most fun and enthusiastic people you could ever meet. I love the range of songs we do and I always leave in a great mood! It gave me back some time for myself after having children and has definitely improved my mood. I've also met some really lovely people. Anyone should give it a go if they enjoy singing. It's all about fun and socialising, no music to read or pressure to perform. Getting the chance to take part in gigs and events is amazing, gives you a real sense of achievement and we always have a great time!

Having retired and having been in amateur dramatics, including singing in pantomimes, I wanted to carry on with something that didn't need lines being learnt! Our society had closed a couple of years ago. I stayed because I felt very welcome, didn't need to be a good singer and I was the only man!! I like the varied songs and gigging, and I look forward to Wednesdays, and a togetherness. I would say the choir is fun and takes you out of yourself.

I wanted to join a choir because I love singing. I stayed at Lucy’s Pop Choir Leeds because of the atmosphere, the format of the songs, and Hannah (the director)! I have been part of a choir before however I found it too complicated (also I was sitting bang in front of the tenors and none of them could sing as well as sitting next to another alto who was always slightly off key so could never find the notes myself). My favourite things about Lucy’s Pop Choir Leeds are that I love everyone, and the songs. There are lots of strong singers which makes it easy to find the notes. Also of course Hannah (the Director), oh and snacks!! My life is richer now. Join, you won’t regret it. It’s the one activity in the evening that I always want to do.

I wanted to join a choir because I have always loved singing, so I wanted to do it more regularly and I had also just moved to the area and wanted to meet new people and be part of my community. I found Lucy’s Pop Choir very welcoming, friendly and it helped me manage stress. I enjoy learning about singing and practicing it with the group. I feel more part of my community and it helps me to manage stress and anxiety which I have struggled with a lot. It is also helping me increase confidence as I often find it difficult to meet new people and be in groups but as we sing, it’s not too intense so I can get to know new people in a relaxed way. I want to say thanks to Lucy’s Pop Choir Leeds for creating a fun, inviting and relaxed choir which has allowed singing to be a bigger part of my life.

I joined the choir because I wanted to sing with others - and to have fun! Lucy’s Pop Choir Leeds is a very relaxed, friendly and fun choir. Hannah, the Director, strikes the right balance between allowing us to chat - and then getting on with the singing. I've been in a few choirs over the years, ranging from church choirs to an a capella choir. Lucy's Pop Choir is more informal. My favourite thing about the choir is the inclusivity, and I've made new friends. I'd say to anyone thinking of joining, just do it. There's no auditions, no-one will be listening to you and judging you, and you'll have fun, as well as learn new songs.

I joined the choir as I love singing with other people. I stayed because of the friendly choir director, friendly choir members, and for the fun and uplifting sessions. I have been part of a choir before. Lucy's Pop Choir differs from other choirs I have attended by having a set format of learning a new song each week or every other week. The same people tend to attend Lucy's Pop Choir regularly, which makes it easier to get to know everyone. We have a lot of fun singing together and I find the choice of songs enjoyable and uplifting. I’ve also met some new people and it provides me with an enjoyable way to relax. Hannah is a fantastic director and we'll really miss her when she moves to Ireland. She motivates us, entertains us and leads the choir in a fun and friendly way. I would tell people to give it a try, as the choir is friendly and inclusive and new people are made to feel very welcome.

I have always wanted to join a choir, but never had the courage to do so !! When I found Lucy's Pop Choir by looking on Google I got really excited about it.... it sounded just perfect for me, I have no musical background & cannot read music, but Lucy's Pop Choir have all the lyrics to the songs written down for us to learn. I went for my free trial last year on the 7th January 2019 when Hannah launched the Horsforth branch of Lucy's Pop Choir &  I joined immediately afterwards as I loved it so much !!! It's just amazing & I can honestly say it's one of the best things I have ever done,  everyone is so very friendly & we all have a giggle learning the new songs together, there is no pressure whatsoever to be perfect  (which is a good job in my case !!!)  Hannah is a fantastic choir director  & it's a joy to be part of such a lovely group of people.  We did lots of gigs for charity last year & I enjoyed every single one of them, I have never performed in public before, but we have been busking in Leeds twice !!  & sung at various half  marathons- food festivals - & Christmas events too !! Singing is so good for the heart & mind it should be on prescription!!  It has certainly helped me through a very difficult time & continues to do so. I so look forward to my Monday Choir meeting,   I'd be lost without it,  I love seeing everyone & having a chat during the break !!  It's just fabulous & a great feeling  to be a part of such a lovely  bunch of people & to be able to sing out loud for all to hear !!!!! My life has become enriched  since I joined the choir..... even if you are feeling down,  when you start to sing you can't help but feel better!!!  I'm in no way a good singer but there is safety in numbers !!!! We all have fun whilst learning our songs!! It has brought me so much joy & will continue to do so for some time to come !! Thank you Hannah you are amazing !! I would like to say to anyone who is thinking of joining a choir, that this is the one to join...... there is no pressure whatsoever  to be perfect & as Hannah our choir director says to us, as long as we all have smiles on our faces & we are enjoying ourselves that's what matters the most !!   We all have a laugh & really enjoy ourselves singing our hearts out !! Thanks again Judith!
