We have visited Trowel Garden Centre over many years and watched its development with interest. The variety of goods available is impressive, the knowledge of the staff equally so. We usually have coffee.We have felt since its redevelopment, that the coffee shop and restaurant has not kept pace with the development of the garden department.Slow service, quite often disinterested staff Today was no exception.When we arrived at just after 10 am the folding doors in the restaurant were wide open - one could feel the draught at the counter. A significant part of the coffee shop was not open.We tried one area , it was much too cold and draughty, as was the next place. We eventually found. a corner we thought would be acceptable. Even here, the draught was unpleasant. We asked twice at the counter if the doors could be closed. The second person said she would pass our request on. Other people complained about the cold. I eventually found someone who said she was the manager ‘ for today’ Her ‘people skills’ left a great deal to be desired and she clearly had little interest in what I had to say or do anything about the situation.I was told . ‘It gets stuffy in there’ and ‘you could move’ Eventually, the doors were closed and we could enjoy our coffee in comfort.. No one came to find out if we were happy and certainly the manager ‘for today’ didn’t feel the need to ask. Quite appalling service..

Good open air garden center, food is a little pricey for a cafe, most food is stopped at 3pm on Saturdays which can be a tad inconvenient, but hey, emplpyees are people that have to get home and have lives so I can't complain. Wheelchair access is prevalent, nice place to go to for a short outing and a light lunch, that's if you don't mind the pricing.
