This hotel has the potential to be very good but there are a few operational quirks that need sorting first. The good: The design of the hotel is very beautiful and finishes are excellent. The beds are extremely comfortable. The staff are very polite and helpful. The location is excellent. The free access to third space gym is a good perk. Excellent WiFi with no need for passwords Small lifts mean no horrendously long journeys stopping at each floor. The bathroom is tiny and there is a single shelf for any toiletries. The Bad: The rooms are very small and offer nowhere to sit other than the bed or a wooden desk chair. I struggled as a single occupant so not sure how a couple would cope. There is nowhere in the room to put a suitcase and the clothes hanging space is minimal. The beds have a solid base which is a waste of oriental storage space for large items like suitcases etc. The TV signal is intermittent and some channels work then cut out. There are no phones in the room. You can use a QR code on the TV to access chat or you can visit reception. Reception doubles as the concierge so if you need to ask or question, get a gym pass or anything else you have to queue with check in/ check out + this queue can be very long at peak periods. There are no fridges in the room which makes having chilled water or keeping any milk difficult. There is a kettle, tea, coffee and cups provided but you have to use the small desk to make a drink (as it's the only flat surface) so it means clearing all your stuff off it and onto the bed whenever you want to make a drink. The corridors are like a maze and can be very disorientating with poor signage for how to find lifts etc. I'd hate to try to find my way out in an emergency. Weird things that happened to me during my stay: The power sockets in the room stopped working mid afternoon. I couldn't use the TV to contact reception and the Aircon in the room (a must) also cut out. I reported it to reception and it took over 2 hours for them to arrange for maintenance to come, arrive and diagnose that the kettle had tripped a fuse. I had to ask several times at reception for an update whilst I waited in the lobby. Everyone was polite but at no point did anyone even offer to pay for the 2 cups of tea that I had to order in the all day coffee bar (as I couldn't make my own in my room). I decided to use the stairs but ended up getting trapped in the stairwell as there is no key reader on the other side. A kind passer by heard me knocking on the window and let me in. As I'm staying at the hotel twice this week, I asked if I could leave my suitcase in their storage room so I didn't need to cart it to birmingham and back. I was told this was not possible due to 'security reasons'. The Hilton around the corner has no problem with this and, given their rooms are circa 4 sizes that of the Tribe hotel, I'll probably stay ther next time.
