FAQ

What are the qualifications and experience levels of your instructors?

Our instructors are all certified by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and have extensive experience in sailing and instruction. They have undergone rigorous training and assessment to ensure they meet the highest standards. We also provide ongoing training and development opportunities for our instructors to ensure they stay up-to-date with the latest techniques and best practices.

What is the student-to-instructor ratio in your classes?

We maintain a low student-to-instructor ratio to ensure that each student receives personalized attention and instruction. Our ratio is typically 4:1 for practical on-the-water instruction, and 6:1 for classroom-based instruction.

What type of boats do you use for instruction?

We use a variety of boats for instruction, including dinghies, keelboats, and multihulls. Our fleet includes a range of sizes and types to accommodate different skill levels and preferences. We also regularly update our fleet to ensure that our students have access to safe and modern equipment.

What safety protocols do you have in place?

We take safety very seriously and have a comprehensive set of protocols in place to ensure the safety of our students and instructors. These include pre-sailing safety briefings, mandatory life jacket use, regular safety checks and maintenance of equipment, and strict adherence to weather and water conditions.

What is your cancellation policy for classes and what happens in case of bad weather?

We understand that sometimes plans change and we have a flexible cancellation policy in place. For cancellations made more than 14 days in advance, we offer a full refund. For cancellations made within 14 days, we offer a credit for a future class. In the event of bad weather, we will make every effort to reschedule the class for a later time. If rescheduling is not possible, we will offer a credit for a future class.

I joined Trent Valley Sailing Club initially as it was the only local club that ran a learn to sail course in the Autumn. What I found was a very friendly, small club, with history in the most beautiful setting. Sailing has been a wonderful challenge in learning, fitness and friendly competition, and always varied.

Really friendly, helpful sailing club. I turned up as a solitary lady in her 50s looking for a RYA Level 2 course after learning to sail in Greece. Instantly welcoming and encouraging. They have boats to hire but I now have my own dinghy and sail and race regularly
