The Zine
By America, For The Rest Of The World The book launch of By America (2023) authored by Matthew Desmond was held at Toynbee Hall, Aldgate, London. It was an appropriate place to challenge the status quo because traditionally it was geographically important to teasing the truth out of all sorts of societal disruptions to mankind. Like London’s East End, Desmond wanted to engage the audience in an ongoing narrative about how to enthuse the people with less capital to be interested in the functions of society through Allyship and its effects on American infrastructure. As an author, Desmond continuously believed in the importance of having a voice and the agency should always be lingering with the sense to open up more opportunities for the masses to access in all societal realms. Matthew Desmond's key argument is about building movements and starting a dialogue about how to make living standards better. Mobilisation came from people rising up against the rich and powerful. The dreams of the rich have become the reality for everyone. People have forgotten how to dream and dream big! There needs to be possibilities in all parts of life. The dream does not need to unachievable - it can be something small at first and become big over time. The question is: - How can we be a part of democratisation in society? Things are happening without you being involved but it affects us all. Being a part of the action. What are the most important issues affecting your life? Ally ship is a term of making shared contributions. Take the idea of balancing mechanism in the Media. BBC is supposed to be impartiality rather than working for the traditional media (wealthy men owning newspapers and television stations). For instance, the institution of Journalism can change the discourse for the masses to consume more informative news for a large percentage of the day’s newsfeed. The rich are continuing to engineer the poor to remain. It is a fear that poorer people should not be missing with rich people in education, healthcare etc. White Americans are not willing to share with black Americans. It is a racialised imbalance for keeping non-white people poor because they do not deserve to access to all amenities. Comprising your wealth to help others would stop people from levelling up the standards of living for others. There needs to be both moral and economical arguments for lifting people out of people using bottom up approaches. Something about community. We should not actually be doing this. The world that it should be versus the we actually live. That's where the change comes from. Rewarded for the involvement had to be rooted in the social fat - is how to redistribute the money across each individual lives. Housing is commodified that some own so much and others have so much homes. Rent controls should be there to redress the balance. After reading Matthew Desmond’s By America the two main things to survive life are solidarity is key to helping others as well as the Middle class having to play a role in making society a fairer place to live.

Gorgeous gem of a building close to Aldgate East station, it’s a little hidden in the corner but once you know it’s there, it can’t be missed. I stopped by to take a look but it’s mainly used for meetings. The reception area is interesting and it’s steeped in social history! Pop in and take a look! 💎
