Lovely hotel with mid-century modern elements throughout. The history of the place is well presented throughout which add a sense of class to the rooms. I stayed here on a business trip and was given a ground floor room, so some noise from upstairs neighbours and traffic on the main road was to be expected. The room was comfy, well equipped and a great welcoming space to come back to. The only thing that soured my stay was an unexpected ~£70 bill slipped under my room's door in an envelope a few hours before check-out. The bill listed "Accommodation Service Charge" for each day of my stay, each one around £11 but oddly varying in amount. I had paid in full ahead of time, had my "do not disturb" sign on the whole time (i.e. rooms weren't cleaned), hadn't purchased anything in the room and hadn't even seen any staff around during my stay other than at check-in so any charges were puzzling to me. As I was rushing out to catch my train, I stopped by reception to be told this was intended as tips for staff and was optional, though the very formal letter (that required a signature) made no mention of that. This came across as a mandatory bill, a money-grabbing tactic preying on guests who wouldn't have had the time to discuss this with reception, rather than an opportunity to voluntarily leave a tip. The majority of my stay was pleasant, but this final letter was quite triggering after an otherwise straightforward week of work. I wouldn't even expect to have to discuss this bill with reception, this should be voluntary not mandatory - Would reconsider staying here next time if this is the hotel's attitude. Noteworthy details: Staff may slip a formal looking bill under your door for "Accommodation Service Charges". Though this seems mandatory and VERY formal, it is an optional daily tip to leave for staff. Discuss this with reception before leaving (though in other hotels this simply wouldn't happen)

The one bedroom is spacious with modern but trendy furnishings. The service isn’t the best. We had to ask three times for a repair. When we checked in, we were no provided with any details about the hotel, for example amenities, restaurants, etc Walkability: Close to the tube access

Rooms: Very comfortable, spacious, with a kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom. Very good standard. Food & drinks: Delicious breakfasts with freshly baked pastries and other things. Didn’t test, but there is 2 Michelin star restaurant in the hotel.
