I’ve trained in Kung Fu and Tai Chi under Maki at both the Angel and Old Street locations. Maki is a knowledgeable, skilled and patient instructor. Besides teaching me the various techniques, she’s also helped me to better understand how to integrate my mind and body while training, in part by focusing on my breathing. As someone who tends to be more in my head than my body, this concept does not come naturally to me. Maki’s gentle guidance, however, has encouraged me to work on this. As a result, I’ve improved my concentration in class and my Kung Fu and Tai Chi has gotten better. In addition to improving my martial arts, this has also assisted me in other areas of my life, helping me to reduce stress and be more mindful, amongst other things. I feel lucky to be a member of Tiger Crane Kung Fu and to benefit from Maki’s guidance!
