My aunt was a resident at Ticehurst, she was only there for a year but she was very taken care of by the very helpful and caring staff. I can't say many thanks enough for the outstanding care my Auntie received in the time she was there.

Having looked after both my parents in their own home for over five years, things finally became untenable and Mum had to go into residential care in July 2016, while Dad moved in with us. Both were very old, both had Alzheimer’s, various health issues and limited mobility. I had dreaded this moment as Mum would fret if she was separated from Dad for more than a couple of minutes and would become utterly obsessed with finding him. Also having supervised every aspect of their care for so long, I was very reluctant to hand over the reins of responsibility. I visited every care home in the area and Ticehurst came out very clearly at the top. I was very pleasantly surprised to discover it was bright, airy and cheerful. The staff went out of their way to make Mum feel at home and to integrate her into their community. Residents were encouraged to join in the daily activities and the atmosphere was good and upbeat. There was always something going on. Mum’s room was clean and tidy and there were several different seating areas where visitors could go and have a proper chat without having to sit with all the other residents, if they so wished. We liked the Yellow Jug Café – this really does feel like an outing to a resident who is no longer keen to go outside. We also particularly liked the ‘Pig & Whistle’, where we were able to have a family party in October to celebrate their 67th Wedding Anniversary and Dad’s 94th birthday – Ticehurst’s catering staff organised the party food for us. Both my parents thoroughly enjoyed themselves and did not realise they were not in a real pub! Mum settled in as well as she was ever going to. Her agitation would come and go but for the most part she was content. Sadly Mum had to go into hospital in November but her health deteriorated rapidly and when she returned to Ticehurst, it was into the Nursing side. Her room was beautiful and she was cared for with great kindness and compassion, but she was fading and she died in December. Within a matter of days my father also fell ill and spent Christmas in hospital, where he too went into a decline. He died in February 2017, just 8 weeks after Mum. So her stay was not long, but I was happy with the way she was cared for in Ticehurst and the two of them are now finally reunited. Thank you Peninah and all the staff at Ticehurst for doing a sterling job.
