The Big Swindon Sleepout 2021. An unforgettable experience even if it is only ‘a snapshot’ of rough sleeping. The event was very well organised, safe, friendly, had lovely food and entertainment, and was informative, uplifting and inspiring in equal measures. I will definitely attend next year!

On Friday 3rd December I took part in their Big Sleep Out 2021 which is an annual event raising much needed funds. It was cold, it rained and I hadn't brought a very adequate shelter so I ended up rather damp and extremely tired. However, it was nothing compared to what a rough sleeper has to contend with, day in and day out with no end in sight. The event was amazingly well organised, extremely educational and very informative. My best part though was sitting quietly over breakfast and simply listening. Some of the tales I overheard were heartbreaking - the staff and numerous volunteers for Threshold work tirelessly in both preventing people from becoming homeless and being there for them if they slip through the net. Humans are not disposable, though sadly too many people only see what they want to see and cast a blind eye. Everyone, no matter their past actions and the challenges they face, deserves a safe, dry and warm place to call home and Threshold do their utmost best to help so many people to achieve this basic right.

Excellent charity doing vital work to prevent and raise awareness of homelessness and to keep safe and take care of and educate and train those that find themselves on the streets of Swindon. Took part in the annual sleepout for Threshold for the first time last night and we were fortunate to have the things needed to keep us warm and comfortable whereas many on the streets would not have any of this without the great work that Threshold does. I would do the sleepout again which was excellently organised and will keep on supporting via Runvember.

Had a fab experience first hand at the big sleep out, pleasure to fundraise for such a positively impactful charity and to see the work they do. I look to further support this charity where homelessness is a growing issue affecting people from all walks of life. Some of which I had the pleasure of meeting at the event. My children were able to participate which was a great learning experience for them. Very grateful!
