Lovely woods and coffee in the shop is excellent. But it desperately needs more bins. Couldn’t find a bin anywhere near the immediate vicinity of the shop and only two dogs mess bins which were full. Of course majority of people just pile it up…

Thorndon is great for forest walks, nature, the gruffalo trail and, normally, the cafe. Alas we have heard that dogs have now been banned from all Essex Wildlife Trust cafes, including this one, owing to a complaint. We regularly meet with friends at Thorndon and there are 5 dogs, of all which are very well behaved. Unlike some children, they don't throw food around, run around screaming or take items off shelves and drop them on the floor. We are not anti-children but why are people anti-dogs? All dog owners need to control their dogs and the same goes for the parents of kids. Why should the vast majority of dog owners be turfed out of EWT cafes because of some complaints!

Watch the potholes on your way in! The Centre is set in wonderful woods and emerged from the devastation caused by the Storm on 1987. Car parking can be difficult on busy days but tap your card and you're paid up.The Centre is clean and tidy and the ice cream freezer and cool drinks cabinet are well stocked. Hot drinks, chocs and sandwiches available too. Loads of toys, cuddlies, games and gifts to buy. Was surprised there are no waste bins around but I guess they could encourage vermin if not emptied....so TAKE YOUR RUBBISH HOME WITH YOU.
