Jim is an excellent highly skilled craftsman and engineer. His buildings are naturally bespoke and beautiful and designed to the clients exact specification. His teachings are first class and he has the patience of a saint. I love visiting his timber yard and admiring his work.

Terrible service and poor finish to summerhouse. The issue started when they got defensive about the time it was taking (weeks behind). We mentioned this, he said he never said it would take six weeks and implied we were lying so we forwarded an email he had written confirming this. He then become agitated and became very difficult. The roof was very poorly constructed... no overhang at the back so water leaks in, no drainage was installed as we were told there would be an overhang. The boards were nailed in and not screwed. Wooden slats have a tiny overlap and with heavy shrinkage gaps have appeared and nails are popping. We confirmed with him at the beginning we wanted a flooring so we could just varnish... they deliberately put hundreds (I mean hundreds) of nails AND screws in the floor which meant I had to get a floor laid over the top. The back windows weren’t siliconed in and they leaked. We opted for an eco friendly thermal layer (double walls and sawdust in between) but with the heavy shrinkage the sawdust is falling out through the gaps. The door has stuck from day one so we rarely use it as I can’t lock the door. We asked him to come back to repair and sort things.. he did a couple and said the door was our issue and left with a terrible attitude. We felt we couldn’t ask him to come back for anything because he was so aggressive and defensive. The whole situation was awful. They took more than double the time to erect the building than they stated. His response is a complete and utter lie. Seriously astonishing! The part about the wind swiping our door open never took place. Neither did the discussion about the manufacturers of the door getting involved. The lock was stiff from the beginning and 9 out of 10 times it doesn’t lock due to the alignment of the doors. We did inform him of all the issues but he chose to ignore some. We did say we didn’t want any more dealings with him as he became nasty. And we did hold back a small amount of money which we informed him why (it was an amount proportionate to the issues needing dealt with). We still have the emails proving this, just like the email stating that after it was built on his property it would take 6 weeks to take down and reassemble on our property but it took more than double that.
