If you're not local to the World's End pub Tilbury and fancy checking it out, be warned, you might not be welcome. The cleintel are friendly but the barmaid is a nightmare. We were on a photo assignment at Tilbury Fort on Monday 21/3/2022. We ordered food, which was nothing to write home about, sending me to the toilet three times, and I had an orange juice, presented with lipstick all over the rim of the glass. I complained, and though it was replaced there was no appolllogy, and the barmaids officious and surely attitude throughout made it plain the act was deliberate. Even my dinner knife was not clean but rather than provoke a scene I washed it in the gents. Altogether an unsavoury experience and not to be recommended Time of ordeal 15.00.

"The public house is rumoured to be visited by the ghost of a highwayman who haunts the rooms of children. "Swift Nick", also known as William John Nevison was from a good family in Yorkshire but chose a life of highway robbery. It's believed that he committed in Kent, used the Tilbury ferry before riding to Chelmsford and then on to York. He was hanged in 1686."
