I have no negative comments regarding the actual medical staff and doctors at this surgery. Please note though, as like many others here, i am deeply frustrated at the reception and phone call systems. It simply is maddening when you are unwell to have to run the gauntlet of unhelpful staff who are clearly stretched too thin. I don't know what the answer is but perhaps more reception personnel would be an effective start.

Very bad, from working at the reception to even some doctors. I call for an appointment for my son, he asks me the same questions five times, so that he will put me on hold to check with the manager, then he comes back and asks me the same questions again and finally hangs up. it is just one of the examples of reception and reception work. I took my son for a check-up, my child didn't eat anything for a few days, he lost a lot of weight, otherwise he hates food and eats only one food, etc. and to all that the doctor says I DON'T KNOW, that's how it is with children. ??!! I'm sorry I didn't remember the doctor's name. They often change doctors and workers at the reception, which shows that something is wrong here, because people are constantly leaving this place of work.

I had to write to say that most of these negative reviews do not relate to this surgery. The Tollgate Practice do not have a walk in/queuing in the rain(!) system, GP, Nurse Practitioner and blood test appointments are bookable online and by telephone and even routine appointments are within a week or so. Urgent appointments are bookable online or by telephone every day. I think that the negative reviews about this surgery are for Ambrose Avenue branch and not The Tollgate Practice. How stupid can these people be!! I myself can't thank the surgery enough for the care that my parents have received. The kindness and compassion shown by the whole surgery is so noticeable even from the first call to the receptionist. Everywhere is under pressure and I think some of the other comments on here are very unfair. They are doing their best and doing a good job. Best surgery in Colchester.

Worst doctors I’ve ever experienced follow the guidelines this morning turn up at 8am to book in for 9am walk-in service at 9.08am we are told we won’t be seen! After waiting since 8am! One guy said he started queuing at 06.20 am what next camping outside??? The receptionist says I’m sorry I’m working on my own!!! Surely a tannoy system alerting people not to cue? Or maybe more staff running a large practice with one member of staff is beyond ridiculous!!!!

This surgery doesn't seem to book appointments on the day by phone anymore, I have been 1st in the queue multiple times and there is always nothing, or only telephone appointments over a week later or they offer appointments in silly locations. You have to call 1-2 weeks before you want an appointment. You can't get through on phone to cancel an appointment if you can't attend. It seems the only way to get is to show up from 7am at the door to queue and if you cannot do that you can't have one on the day. I have also been told many times to go to a and e when it's not been appropriate.

Dear sir/madam, I feel compelled to send this email to say a huge thank you to Amie who did my daughters blood test this morning. She made sure that she had a prescription ready for her magic cream that we applied beforehand. She was absolutely fantastic with her, chatted with her to put her at ease as it’s pretty scary having a blood test when you are little. She even drew smiley faces on her plasters. What a lovely kind lady and an absolute credit to the practice. Thank you so so much!

I can’t recommend this surgery highly enough! Had a bad infection last year and was seen within hours of my phone call. My husband and daughter have also had amazing customer experience from the staff. Very efficient and caring practice.
