I have been to the Tal y cafn many times as my friend has a caravan up the road at Maenan Abbey. We called for a drink on Monday 22nd May and sat on the lovely terrace in the sun. The lovely Janet was working and serving food on the terrace. So on the 24th May as the sun was still shining we decided to finish our day out in Llandudno with a meal outside on the terrace of the Tal y cafn. We got to the pub and we were greeted by a sign saying no food was being served on the terrace. WHY?? It a beautiful summers day, perfect for eating in the sun. Inside in the restaurant it was hot and stuffy. Had we known there was no service available outside we would have eaten at the Cottage Loaf in Llandudno. Outside in the sunshine!!!!!. As I had been driving all day we reluctantly decided to eat in the restaurant. There were dishes on the menu were not available. There was no mussels, salmon, cheese and onion pie. This is the second time you've had no mussels, and you're by the sea. Come on Tal y cafn get your act together. You're not consistent with your service. Your staff are wonderful and welcoming, but you are losing custom by not being consistent.

Last minute decision to eat out following a difficult day of building work being carried out. We only wanted a main course and a drink but like many before have mentioned, it's curious how so many dishes were unavailable leaving a very limited choice. Is it bad planning or lack of kitchen staff?? My wife ordered a burger which looked OK but was quite dry. The quality was not on par with the price. I ordered the chicken strips, four or five arrived on the plate with a mug of ordinary chips and a cup of gravy. Nothing else and looking wholly unappetising. The strips were way overcooked and stringy, chips were passable but the sauce/gravy was water thin. Nobody came to check on our meal so I just paid the £48 bill and we left never to return. The 2 stars are for the staff who are lovely.

Lovely food and friendly staff. Good sized portions but overpriced for what it was. Beer garden is the car park but slightly higher so not for those wanting views of greenery.

(Translated by Google) Wanted something to eat and unfortunately didn't get anything because there weren't enough staff. On the second evening we had reserved a table and were seated at an uncomfortable table. Unfortunately the food wasn't very good either. Mussels very small and rather poor quality. Too bad. Sehr schade. Positiv: Hundefreundlich

£4 for a coffee is steep, no matter how pleasant the environment is. It's a nice place, but the prices are city centre prices, not backcountry road ones. Service : 4/5 | Location : 4/5 … More
