My girlfriend and I had booked one of the shepherds huts for 2 nights which was an amazing experience. We had everything we needed including a barbecue and fire wood to burn from a honesty box shop. The location was very peaceful and tranquil. You would have thought we were the only ones there. The road down the hill to the site was smooth and easy to drive on. The hut itself had everything we needed; they really thought about everything! The only unfortunate aspect was the hot tub. It was just way too hot at 110°f. Although having visited in August that could be why. Hot tubs are best enjoyed in the winter! However that doesn't take anything away from the experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the shepherds hut retreat and would recommend anyone looking for a peaceful getaway to stay here!

Stayed here over my birthday, we loved every minute, the shepherd's delight was lovely, so cozy! The hut had absolutely everything we need! Cling film, skewers for roasting marshmallows, tea, coffee, salt and pepper! Anything we needed was already there, even had dvds, binoculars, the owners really had thought of everything! The hut was lovely and clean. We really enjoyed having the camp fire, also used the honesty shop for more fire wood. Hot tub was beautiful next to the lake, only thing was the fairy lights around the hot tub were not working.. :( Apart from the fairy lights not working everything was perfect, such a relaxing break from reality, Thankyou!!! We will definitely be back! :)

Like other reviews have indicated I must say I agree that the owners here only care about money and not customer satisfaction. It is so evident that they don't have any clue on how to talk to customers... I found this property via CoolStays which said that the property was available on my chosen dates and that the price would be between £120-£190 per night. Upon trying to book and being directed to the official website it would no longer let me book on a Sunday. As stated on the website, it says to email if you have any requests on holidays outside of the normal operating days. As we run our own business and finding time to get away is difficult, we are restricted and have to go away on a Sunday. I sent a lovely email explaining our situation and kindly asked if there were any exceptions that could be made so we come on a Sunday. The email I got back was laughable. It lacked any genuine empathy, warmth, friendliness and wasn't even signed off. All that was sent back was literally one sentence basically 'no, because of cleaning schedules'. Now I understand that obviously you can't always meet customer requests but this just doesn't seem enough of an explanation to me. I can understand if you added more of explanation such as, 'we're really sorry but unfortunately this is our deep cleaning day and it might impact on your visit, blah blah...'. But from your email it just makes it seem like it's going to take a full day to clean one hut? Or that you just cannot be bothered to make a slight amendment which may inconvenience you ever so slightly in order to keep customer rapport. If this was the only problem I wouldn't have bad reviewed, I would have just accepted that unfortunately we would have to cut our holiday short by one day, however on the same email you quoted two nights at a whopping £495.00. On the CoolStays website it says prices can vary between £120-£190. After querying this huge price increase with you, I got another cold email stating 'apologies, it needs to be updated on their website'... that was the email. Absolutely shocking service. I'm sorry but it is your responsibility to make sure information is correct on any website you use to advertise. After I sent you a final email basically saying that I was really disappointed because everything I had read online via your main advertiser was false, I didn't even recieve a reply back. I'm sorry but this level of service is just not acceptable. My business has been in operation for more than 3 years now and I have managed to maintain 5 star reviews across the board on Google, Facebook and TripAdvisor from hundreds and hundreds of visitors. I even have a Travellors Choice Award so please The Shepherd Hut Retreats if you want some training on customer service email me and I'll be more than happy to provide it... It's such a shame because your location and your huts are just gorgeous and I would have happily stayed and then I'm sure I would have recommended it via my business page to thousands of people, as I always believe in helping other businesses who deserve the recognition, but now I will never stay out of principle unless ownership changes. I've now found a beautiful cottage to stay in for my holiday and the owners sound delightful, happy days.

Shepherds Parlour: that hot tub.... with that view... (esp. with a bottle of local Furleigh Blanc de Blanc) was just insanely lovely. Super private in lush surroundings.

Lovely, relaxing two night stay at the Shepard's hut retreat for my birthday. Beautiful view across the lake from the hut and hot tub. Highly recommend ‘the crooked swan’ pub in crewkerne (5 min drive) for food and drinks (and they’re open on a Monday which a lot of other places in crewkerne aren’t!). We ended up going their both nights as it was so delicious! 🍽 Our only recommendation is to put a light in the lake or more fairly lights around the lake so you can see more of the lake view when in the hot tub in the dark! ✨🤩

What a horrible experience. I booked the hut a couple of weeks ago and received the confirmation for our stay in March, I received a 5 phone calls in 5 consecutive after this date demanding the outstanding balance from the hut, one of which was at 7 pm on a Saturday. I mentioned to the extremely rude man who phoned me, I will pay the balance in the following week as I was away at the time, he mentioned the only reason he was chasing as some people do not show up, I ensured him we still wanted to come. That week I then received an email to say my booking was cancelled. I wouldn't waste your time, there obviously is a very extreme lack of customer service. I certainly will not be rebooking my stay.

We stayed in the shepherds hut parlour and it was stunning. It is peaceful and quiet and perfect for couples! Loved that everything is heated by logs and the hot tub to ourselves was worth the extra money. Beautiful! Rooms : 5/5 | Service : 5/5 | Location : 4/5 … More
