Booked 2 rooms for 14/4-17/4 to stay with friends at a cost of £648. The lovely guest lounge shown on the website was full of clutter nad is only available for rooms 29&30 to use, Check in was rushed, we had to chose breakfast time (8-9) and find our own rooms. We had rooms 25 and 31, 25 was a budget but it was small with a tiny bathroom with a broken shower tray. Room 31 was large to sleep a family but there were only 2 pillows on the main bed so I had to ask for more, no spares for the others. The drawer unit had issues as the drawers wouldn't stay on the runners, the set up with the electrics for the TV and kettle, in the form of an untidy multi socket extension lead, were not what i would expect from any hotel/B&B let alone a so called 4*. I made tea in the room and the milk (in a plastic tube) curdled because it went out of date in Feb 23. It was replaced with plastic pots from the dining room. The "luxury toiletries" in both rooms amounted to 4 small heart shaped soaps left in the bathroom. At breakfast is was self service for tea and coffee which I expect from a Travelodge, not a supposed 4* establishment, so it meant queuing with guests getting cereal. It also felt rushed, with my cooked items arriving before I'd finished my cereal so it was cold before I got to it.I spoke to the female owner about the issue in room 25, she didn't appreciate the criticism, pointed out it was a budget room, got very defensive and her excuse was that she was ill, short of staff and hadn't had time to fix it, but I felt it doesn't take much to get a contractor in to sort it out if you can't do it yourself. It is obvious to anyone who travels regularly that this hotel may at one time been a 4* hotel, but, i feel, it has fallen on hard times, which is a shame as it could be a lovely place with a bit of attention to the defects, but now personally would not give it a star rating. I am a well travelled person and have stayed in no star accommodation better than The Sheldon all over the UK and on the continent. Had I not already paid in full, which was non refundable, I would not have stayed.

Unfortunately I can't provide feedback on the actual rooms or location as I was unable to visit as planned. I made a booking for the property the day before at 8:50am (3rd April) for a work related trip, unfortunately due to childcare/sickness falling through as its the school holidays I had to cancel my trip, I reached out and contacted them at 1.20pm (3rd April) so just over 4 hours later to ask if there could be only a partial charge for the cancellation, explaining why. Which was declined, so I have been charged £59 the full amount. Really disappointing and poor customer service, when I reschedule my trip i'll be sure not to use these people, clearly all just about money.

Not for Tradesmen. Booked the room after work, I have two bank accounts one for saving one for paying. I arrived at the hotel within 10 minutes of booking the room and was rejected on the door without even being allowed into the lobby, the staff made it clear that they are a family run business and will not accept me as a guest because they was unable to charge me immediately as I hadn’t yet transferred the funds to my paying account, I was expecting to pay on arrival as it says in the policy however the staff member looked down on me and said even if I rebook online they won’t accept me. Not sure why but the attitude of staff is very unwelcoming and arrogant. I do not recommend this place for anyone to stay to be honest but in particular tradesmen as I’m not sure if it was how I was dressed or something else.

Rooms: Large ,warm. Was very comfortable been here before that is why we booked it again . Love the fact that it has parking on its own grounds . But rooms are so big that they could easily fit two king-size beds in our room Walkability: Turn right a few hundred yards, and you have Eastbourne beach in front of you. What more could you want. Turn left, get to the end of the road, then another left again, and it is the town .

We spent the night at this B&B as we were visiting Eastbourne to go to the theatre, conveniently located close by. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and was greeted by a man at the front desk after ringing the door bell. The man on reception was polite and friendly and tried to answer all our questions on the local pubs and restaurants. He gave us directions to the room and left us to it. The room was very large and spacious with a tiny shower room. Room is looking a bit tired and in need of updating. Carpet was stained and marked, could do with replacing. Weird tiny hand soaps that don’t actually seem to lather up and work (pointless!)which fell out of your hand fell down the sink waste plug hole. Bed was large and comfortable enough. Feel the room is overpriced. Had breakfast in the morning which was fairly cold apart from the baked beans. The real problems started a couple of hours later when we returned home and my partner received a notification that the Sheldon had attempted to withdraw £100 from her bank account without her permission. Confused I contacted the Sheldon to see if this was a mistake. My call was answered by the owner who straight away said ‘yes I tried to take money from you as you used an incense stick in the bathroom’, confused I apologised as I was unaware it was illegal? I then got a rude reply of ‘who do you think you are… when I tried to reply and apologise again she lost her temper and hung up on me. Really unprofessional customer service!!! No phone call beforehand explaining that they were going to issue a fine, just a sneaky attempt to take it from our bank which luckily was declined. I’m pretty sure this isn’t allowed. Who gives someone the right to take money from you without prior warning or permission, this by law is called theft! We are really disgusted with this poor level of customer service and the damn right sneakiness of this woman who is obviously out to make a quick buck out of every little loop hole she can. If only we had thoroughly read all the reviews here, more importantly the very telling replies which Judith Brown has left to all criticism of her B&B. Read thoroughly and proceed with caution. If you read the response to our review from the owner, and then check out all the other responses she has left to those who haven’t given her five stars, you will see that they can’t take criticism. In our defence, we did not smell (just her being vindictive) and there was only one other couple at breakfast when we were there, and they didn’t look over once. We sat on out own in the corner of the room, and even if we’d had smelt (which we definitely didn’t), no one would have noticed. Please check out the other reviews on other platforms for reassurance that there is something definitely wrong with how this person treats her customers!

ROOM 31 Large room lower ground. Room darkish being below pavement level. Window blinds need attention as cords have snapped. Large car drivers need to be aware of the limited car park entrance size as it is somewhat narrow with a height of 1.9m. Front door fob key entry was a plus ! Good Wi-Fi. The room needs some T.L.C. Location is good, close to centre and seafront. Breakfast was good. The two staff I spoke with were pleasant enough. Eastbourne itself is what you expect from an ageing town. The sea front is flat which was ideal for our wheelchair. Toilets available as you meander along, free at the moment, but there are barriers installed for high season use I guess. There is a choice of theatres, depending on your choice. This review should be taken as constructive criticism.

Friendly team. Lot's of choice of cereal for breakfast, and you can have a full English (which can be varied if you like), or omelette. Please note...there is NO sea view, which is obvious, due to where this place is located. Beside's that, it's within a 5min walk to the centre of town, and the other way to the sea/pier We are in a deluxe suite, room 18 which is massive, with a shower room-ensuite, and a separate little room where the kettle is. Rooms 17/18, are within their own 'quiet part'. Room 17 being a single. Bed is really comfortable! We really cannot fault the hospitality, or anything else about The Sheldon. Thankyou for a lovely stay. We don't leave until this Saturday, so still a few days to go.
