The saving graces for this building is the amazingly friendly staff and the fairly decent breakfast. For the “hotel” itself I wouldn’t recommend staying here. I’ve stayed in Bothys wild camping that felt safer and were certainly cleaner. The furniture was falling apart (as sadly felt like for part of the building itself) and there was a lot of mould in the shower.

Stayed for 5 nights. On the outside looks very much like a pub bit inside the hotel bit, the room was warm and cosy. A very basic hotel. The shower cubicle was a bit of a squeeze to get in. No grabrails inside. Bathroom had no ventilation so a bit smelly when used. Wardrobe is also tight. The room could do with a coat rail in the wall near the door. Staff was very pleasant and welcoming, especially the Jamaican lady, who showed me the back entrance to get in/out without walking through the pub. Good location for my needs. Overall a pleasant stay for what I needed. Will definitely be staying there again in recommend to friends

The website does not show the truth about this hotel. Please read reviews before you book. No one greeted us when we arrived. The 2 staff members we saw were pleasant enough. The woman who checked us in eventually came to check us in, we got a drink from her because our room was not ready as reception is in the bar. We didn’t see her again not even when we were checking out. This hotel needs some serious work doing to it for it to be renting rooms to people. Families need to avoid room 7 as my son & hit partner actually left & found somewhere else to stay because it was disgusting & stank of cigarettes. They will not refund my money because apparently we didn’t complain while we were there ( hahaha) we never saw anyone to complain to. There wasn’t anyone around to hand the key cards to when we left either. In the dining area there are wooden doors that look rotten & on the floor, well I say floor but there is a chunk of concrete floor missing which contained dirty disgusting water which I didn’t see the water until after we had finished eating breakfast. Bookers be ware. If it came with no stars that’s what I would choose. Certainly not worth nearly £70 for 1 night. We paid nearly £80 for the family room & they won’t refund anything which is disgusting The room my husband & I stayed in was better than the family room my son had but they need better housekeepers. Cobwebs on the ceilings & around the walls. Broken pictures above the bed & in the bathroom in several places it obviously has not been cleaned in I don’t know how long. Disgusting dirty areas with rubbish & dust & in one area it looked like puke on the wall Food & drinks: Drinks cheaper than we pay at home & the breakfast was about the best thing of the stay. Bit greasy but still enjoyable.

We stayed at the Royal George for our first ever visit to Crufts 🐶 although nothing fancy, the room was clean and felt safe, plus is was a 1 minute walk to the bus we needed to get in to the train station. It wasn’t too noisy despite there being a bar, and although we didn’t have a dog with us, there were a few around which was a nice atmosphere 😊

based on my experience I would not stay there again, I had room number 5 which faces the main street, the windows were rubbish they did not stop any of the noise or any of the draughts. I didn't get any sleep that night even after taking a sleeping tablet the noise from the traffic was too much...I was also promised a double bed (two singles put together to make a double) but got two singles , after sleeping with my wife for over 47 years I did not want to sleep apart ....Jerry the owner did say they would put it together but it did not materialise. I know I booked a twin room but I did call before explaining to Jerry and he said he will sort it..the room was very tired no decoration i.e pictures on the walls. but there was mould and damp in the shower ...Breakfast was ok nothing special. I know it is the lower end of the market price but I wouldn't stay there again.. if I hadn't paid upfront I would have walked out and not paid..
