We are local and have driven past this place many times, saw the good reviews online, and so we decided to try it for Sunday lunch. We will never go back. Service: it took an hour from when we arrived for the food to arrive. 25 minutes of that was just waiting for someone to take our order. We had to go to the bar to get our drinks and ask for menus because no one brought them after they seated us. They had 3 staff serving & the pub was full, very busy. The two men were useless, seemed to just be wandering around. The female server was the only one working really hard. My son commented about the men, "it seems like they don't care and don't want us here." Very unfriendly and almost hostile. No one welcomed us or checked on us to see how we were getting on. Food: I might have been forgiving if the food had been amazing, but it wasn't. Completely average; not bad, but not great. We had the Sunday roast, my chicken was dry, my husband's beef was also totally overcooked. The stuffing was inedible, the Yorkshires were stodgy. Gravy was good and the red cabbage was tasty. Vegetables were ok. We left disappointed. We had high hopes because of the other reviews, but with so many other good pubs in the area, we will not be giving this one a second chance.
