The Pointer school was established by Miss Muriel and Miss Dela Pointer in 1950 and is now split over two buildings, Marnic House (Nursery- Year 1) and the main school (Years 2-6). School Ethos: Learning For Life At The Pointer School we want all children to leave with excellent academic results, a place at a great secondary school, and as enthusiastic confident individuals who will go on to become happy and productive members of their community. To realise this vision The Pointer School will provide: A high quality Christian education which instills in children the natural values of integrity, friendship and respect for others; A family atmosphere which will enable children to develop a strong sense of self-worth and achieve much more than he or she may have believed possible; A broad programme of extracurricular activities to discover and nurture children’s unique talents so that all pupils may experience the pleasure of success; A traditional yet exciting curriculum to educate the whole child and ensure that each child’s crucial first steps in the world of education draw them into the magical world of life-long learning; A positive environment where staff members have high expectations of children, enabling them to achieve their full potential academically, as well as developing exceptional manners, a caring attitude and excellent behaviour. The Pointer School Child The school’s ethos is best seen in our three aims for our pupils. We believe these aims to be essential to achieve happiness, contentment and excellence in the wider world. It is hoped that children in our school will be: Well educated with a love of learning, ready to engage with their community; Happy and self-confident with a good sense of humour; Generous in spirit, kind to others, aware of others’ feelings and with a deep understanding of the Christian faith. We expect all our pupils to live by our school rules, known as The Pointer School Way. Organic food policy The Pointer School is proud to be one of the few schools in London with an ‘organic’ food policy. All our meats, eggs, vegetables, and fruit are organic except when there are occasional disruptions in our supply. Cooked food is generally grilled, baked, poached, steamed and only rarely fried. Our policy is to use only ‘organic’ lamb, chicken and eggs, and free-range when organic chicken and eggs are unavailable. Chips are not on the menu.
