Room very dark and poorly lit, lots of noise could be heard from other rooms, TV was old and temperamental and shower went from ice cold to hotter than the sun at frequent intervals. Staff friendly. Rooms : 2/5 | Service : 4/5 | Location : 4/5 … More

This Google listing is wrong. Breakfast is not supplied. It might have been once but not any more. They don’t have the facilities for breakfast. To be fair to the Penny Farthing they make it clear they cannot do breakfast. You can breakfast at their sister hotel The Kings Arms with a 20% discount on food. Naughty Google for not keeping its listings up to date.

Very much the classic three-star hotel. Strong points? The front-of-house staff were really friendly and attentive, can't fault them during our stay. Weak points? Frankly, the rooms could do with some TLC. We stayed in two different rooms over two separate stays - both showed signs of wear-and-tear, especially the second one. Both had broken air conditioners. The second's 'double bed' was really two singles pushed together - not really a big deal per se, but the cover obviously didn't fit and frankly the mattress looked like it could have used a clean. TV was on the blink too. It certainly wasn't a bad stay but it definitely wasn't great - like I say, the classic three-star hotel.

Rooms: Very dated and lacking, beware of the bedding not being properly changed. Poor shower facilities. Nearby activities: Tons of great restaurants, cafes, shops etc within walking distance. Beautiful canal and castle ruins to visit too. Safety: The town itself is incredibly safe and the facility feels secure. There is always a member of staff on site and they are very attentive. Walkability: You can walk to the train station and the rest of the town easily (those with mobility issues might struggle within the hotel although ground floor rooms are available). Food & drinks: Nothing available from the hotel despite having a restaurant almost inside it. They do offer a good discount at the close by Kings Arms which is excellent. Noteworthy details: I noticed that they allow pets in at least some rooms.
