St Andrew's Church is situated in the middle of the parish, about a mile from the centre of the village. You can take a circular walk there along several footpaths. In a lovely setting behind the original church cottage and school, you can almost step back in time. The impressive square tower is visible from miles around. Make sure you don't miss the old lych gate with Latin inscription. The churchyard is large and well kept, accessed via a mixture of grass paths and a tarmac path, graves dating back hundreds of years. The newest graves are in a cemetery a few yards down Vicarage Lane. There is an impressive war memorial and also a section dedicated to those who lost their lives in the second world war, when North Weald airfield played a major role. Sadly the church tself was closed when we visited. There is easy access around the church for anyone with mobility problems. There is a small bumpy car park, or parking along the lane.
