Great theatre and lovely staff. A tip for the longer-legged, though, is to avoid the front row of the circle

I had never been to the Old Rep theatre in all my 65 years living in Birmingham and it was a different experience. I went in the front door and the member of staff sent me round the back to access the stalls and the bar and I had to walk down the dark and dingy and in my opinion decidedly dangerous (it has a strip club on the corner) Hinckley Street to get into the theatre. Not a nice experience. Once I was in the theatre it was fine but the stage isn't that big and it isn't that big a theatre with stalls and a balcony. The show an "Evening with Martin O'Neill" to promote his new autobiography was excellent as was the interviewer a young journalist. After initial reticence the evening turned out fine
