Busy pub on edge of Sheffield and at entrance to Peak District National Park. Good selection of Real Ale. Popular with walkers and cyclists and weddings. Large car park with electric plugs for camper vans and mobile offices. 4G reception good for this. Great for early morning walk and breakfast. Excellent service. Walkability: Access from the moors above Ringinglow and from a lovely 4 mile walk up Porterclough from Sheffield's Endcliffe Park. Pub is right on the edge of the Peak District with road access to the south to Hathersage, Hope Valley, Grindleford, Longshaw and beyond.

This establishment is normally of the highest quality. Today unfortunately it was not, I ordered a full English with an extra fried egg and a bit of fried bread. Once it came out it was barley warm, only one poor looking fried egg and a plate of 4 slices of fried ish brown bread on the side. The server asked if that’s what I meant and I explained it wasn’t but it was to late by then so I started my breakfast. To add to this I have had the same order numerous times in the past with no issue. The only reason it didn’t get a 1 star review is the normal high quality and friendliness of the staff. In addition they tried to force me to sit in designated areas in front of the bar. I declined and said I’d sit outside but in fairness they then said sit where you want. I will return as every place has it’s off days.

The superior room with views across the beautiful landscape and neighbouring alpaca farm was superb. Breakfast was great, although Sunday lunch was slow and horribly overcooked. The price for the weekend stay was very reasonable and the rooms much better than most of the local hotels. For a base for exploring the Peak District you'll be hard-pushed to find better.
