FAQ
What is the teacher-to-student ratio in your Montessori classrooms?
At The Montessori Place, we maintain a low teacher-to-student ratio of 1:8 in our Montessori classrooms. This allows for more individualized attention and support for each student. How do you incorporate technology into your Montessori curriculum?
While we believe in the importance of hands-on, experiential learning in the Montessori approach, we do incorporate technology in a thoughtful and intentional way. Our students have access to age-appropriate educational software and tools, as well as interactive whiteboards and tablets. We also emphasize the importance of digital citizenship and responsible technology use.Do you offer any after-school programs or extracurricular activities for students?
Yes, we offer a variety of after-school programs and extracurricular activities for our students, including sports, music, art, and language classes. We believe that these activities provide valuable opportunities for our students to explore their interests and develop new skills outside of the classroom. How do you assess student progress and provide feedback to parents?
We use a variety of assessment methods in our Montessori classrooms, including observation, student work samples, and formal assessments. We also provide regular progress reports and parent-teacher conferences throughout the year to keep parents informed about their child's development and progress. What is your approach to discipline and classroom management in the Montessori environment?
In the Montessori approach, we emphasize the importance of respect, responsibility, and self-discipline. We work with our students to develop these skills through positive reinforcement, clear expectations, and natural consequences. Our two boys, now 8 & 7, have both been at The Montessori Place in Hove since they were around two years old and we have been very happy with all aspects of the school throughout this time. We came across the school largely by chance as we live nearby, so we knew little about Montessori principles at that time but we've become convinced it's a very good approach to learning. We like the strong emphasis on nurturing and encouraging children's innate curiosity and desire to learn, rather than forcing them to follow strict subject timetables in the drive to pass exams. The children have a lot of choice as to what they do on any day at school but in practice this never seems too laissez-faire because the teachers (guides) know the individual children very well and are extremely accomplished at gently and subtlety piquing their interest and nudging them towards any subjects that they might be neglecting. So we like the Montessori approach, but what we like most about the school is the incredible dedication, ability and genuine care consistently demonstrated by all of the guides. The result is that our boys enjoy going to school, we know they're safe and well looked after, they come home enthused about what they're learning and they've got great role-models in their teachers.
