As always on my several stays with various properties in the Mercer Collection this was a very good experience. Very comfortable bed, clean room and friendly efficient staff topped off with their usual excellent breakfast makes this my 'go to' choice for stays pre or post ferry sailings to or from France. Only slight negative aspect is difficulty parking, although as the collection is made up of several properties in a close area this must only be expected. Highly recommended.

Our first stay here in one of their "suites" (large rooms) was chaotic. Arrived at reception of one hotel in the group to be sent to another only to be lead back to the first to be shown one of the room options available to us. Chose the suite, but did have to ask for enough towels and bathrobes which then took about half an hour to arrive. The decor of the hotel is excellent with only a few jiggly minor negatives. Breakfast quality was excellent but service unfortunately poor with my wife originally getting the wrong order. There did not seem to be enough waiters to cope with the number of guests. On trying to organise a return visit my wife emailed asking for a price for our intended stay. We were quoted an excellent rate for half board for two nights. We asked for a third night to be added to the quote, and the price nearly doubled. We understand that different nights command different rates, but this seemed a little ridiculous. We then asked to go ahead with the original quote only to be told that they had made a mistake and would not be able to honour it. I asked to speak to the manager only to be told that I already was, but could speak to the owner if I liked. I was then put on hold for between 5 and 10 minutes. The lady I had been speaking to then came back and said that the owner did not want to speak to me, and that if I insisted on the original quote being honoured she would have to pay for our dinner herself for one of the nights. Feeling very uncomfortable about this we have decided not to stay in a hotel with such a similar management style again. For the record, as the owner likes to claim in his/her reply to any negative reviews that the reviewer only does one star reviews, my average review is a 3.

Really sad we stayed once before which was lovely. Requested in an email a price for a two night DBB and then asked to add another night. The price almost doubled and when trying to sort the owner would not speak with us but the manager admitted she had made a mistake and she would have to pay out of her own money. We are left feeling very uncomfortable and unwelcome.

Booked here for a 3 nights stay. The hotel is in a great location to access all areas either by feet or transport. The hotel is beautifully decorated and intimate maybe too intimate. I will get to that later. The Staff have all provided good customer service from reception, Cleaning team to breakfast waitresses, except for the first waitress we had on Monday 11th March. She indeed provided good waiting service but was cold, not welcoming and not 1 smile throughout the service. The others were the total oppossite. The breakfasts were excellent for our 3 mornings. Being pescatarians and non-dairy we often found breakfasts in 3 and 4 star hotels to fail us. It was the case here. They provide a good variety for all and a full veggie or fish option which is great. The only little minuses is that they was no non-dairy milk option and they serve industrial bread although good quality but it would be great to see such a good breakfast complimented by a locally made bread. Maybe they could purchase from a local bakery and keep small to medium businesses supporting each other rather than the big companies benefiting. And off course the bread will be better. Now i get to the negative! The hotel has very thin walls. Not sure about the whole building but our room was terrible. We could hear both upstairs and downstairs neighbours talking and the tvs. On the 1st night we had to call reception to ask them to intervene because the couple downstairs was loudly active for hours (no need for description). We were told that they had other complaints. This said they acted immediately has the noise stopped for 30 minutes but then second serving till 2am. We gave up at that point. The second night was better. No guest downstairs but still hearing tvs and others talking. So light sleep. 3rd night was a new sleepless night. We had a new neighbour downstairs with heavy snoring. Well there was no point in calling reception for this one. Lol. 3 nights and little sleep. My husband was on an intensive 3-day course and found it extremely difficult to contrate and learn. I accompagnied him to rest after a period off illness. We are now leaving totally exhausted. Sadly this has spoilt our stay. This said i repeat again the hotel is good and affordable for everything else. The staff were good. But sadly this was our experience this time.

We had a wonderful stay at The Florence Hotel and I'm sure the rest of the collection are just as beautiful. We saw the Bistro Pud which looked just as good but sadly our evenings were booked. We will return and the Bistro will be visited as well. Many thanks.
