Wow! There is nothing more bizarre than experiencing unfair, unwelcoming, and absolutely rude service in a foreign country by the same race of people. My family and I were visiting Cheltenham for my siblings’ high school education, we flew all the way from China for more than 12 hours on the plane. We had two GREAT visits, people were friendly, schools were truly AMAZING. UNTIL we get to the Mayflower, an Asian restaurant; where we try to find a taste of home. The whole Cheltenham experience changed. As we started to order, the menu was confusing. So I asked few questions, but the lady with highlights on her hair (or grey hair) who takes our order with such an impatient attitude. Half contemptuous smile, half unwillingness to serve, and answered as if we were idiots to ask such question. We didn’t order any rice since few of us try to avoid high GI in our diet. She mentioned about the restaurant will get busy later on so they do not take reorder dishes which we understood. However, when all the foods start to serve, my father feel like he need some rice, so we asked another waiter to add few bowl of rice. The lady who took the order earlier, came back to the table and started blaming on us. When she go back to the kitchen and bring rice to the table, she sort of smash the dishes onto the table with very big noise. Seems like she’s trying to make a statement. Did we violated the law or something? Why is she acting like this? And the restaurant was not popular at all. By the time we finished everything, there was not many table were occupied!!!! Absolutely trashy experience I have ever had, even I live abroad for more than 10 years. I have never been treated in any Asian restaurant as I have experienced in this place.

As lovely as their food is and a staggering minority of their staff being incredible, don’t waste your time or money here unless you want to be met with brutish unprofessionalism. The “manager” was snapping at us to make a decision, despite us being amongst only 3-4 other tables. As she was cleaning our dessert dishes she dropped a bowl of syrup on the ground which splashed on the back of my feet. Not a single apology was uttered, not a problem, I did my best to reassure her it was fine anyway. I then went to check if the juice had splattered on my coat and she thought that was the moment to snap “there’s nothing on it.” Cool, strike 2. Finally one of our guests asked for the card machine to pay, as this vagabond didn’t reply we continued looking at her, to which she replied “yes we know what we’re doing here.” I’m sure you do you halfwit.
