We recently visited the Marquis to celebrate a 30th birthday. This restaurant (and hotel) has a quiet, rural location. It is beautifully decorated inside with exposed wooden beams and different levels of seating. On the occasion that we visited, the menu was extensive with plenty of choice and many interesting sounding dishes. Items on the menu are expensive so I would regard this restaurant as somewhere to visit for a treat or special occasion rather than a regular meal. Food (4/5): All of the starters that we ordered were well-presented and appetising. I would highly recommend the squid. Our main courses were of a good standard. The beef wellington looked fantastic and I would order that if I were to visit again. My fillet steak was good (but not outstanding) although the snail and garlic sauce was delicious. My partner's lamb was similar. All of the desserts that we ordered were superb and well worth leaving a little room for the end of the meal. As it was a birthday celebration, we requested that one of the desserts had some candles (which we brought from home) - thank you for accommodating this. Drinks (5/5): We ordered a range of drinks and they were all brought to the table promptly or when requested in the case of the red wine for the main meal. The Marquis serves a range of cocktails that are well worth sampling. Ambience (no rating): The restaurant was quiet when we visited so this is hard to judge. Service (5/5): Outstanding! Everyone who tended our table was courteous and helped to contribute to an enjoyable visit. Thank you

We went for dinner last night, waited 20 minutes for cocktails before being seated for dinner. We all found the food disappointing. The pasta was over cooked and priced at £36 (this was removed from the bill) I had the steak which was nice but nothing particularly special considering it was £38. The best part of the meal was the wine which was excellent, however £400 for a dinner for 4 people was excessive, especially when you consider the quality of other local eateries like The Secret Garden, Peacock and Black Lion. Certainly won’t be rushing back as feel very underwhelmed by the whole experience and disappointed.

A very friendly and tasty way to spend Mother's Day morning. We had a room to ourselvescwirh a riverside view. The food was delicious and the staff very polite, genuinely friendly and helpful. Safety: Currently, the Marquis is being extended so there is a roadside pavement walk from the car park to the front door.
