Having looked at the menu online, I booked a table for Friday night to celebrate my boyfriend's dinner. Told the lady over the phone that I wanted to surprise the birthday boy and if they did anything special for birthdays. She said she will add a candle to his dessert and she will be there on Friday and take good care of us. When we arrived there on Friday night, the place was very quiet. The waitress (same as the one who took the booking) was very warm and friendly. We ordered ordered some starters: the devil eggs (freakishly small portions) were bland, but the catfish goujons were perfect. I ordered champagne and he ordered white wine, which he did not enjoy The waitress then came to take our order for the main; she was very helpful and accomodating. Due to a shellfish allergy, I could not have the sauce on the menu, but the cod fillet and asparagus were cooked to perfection - but they were very bland, there was no seasoning on the fish and I had to ask for pepper and creole remoulade on the side, My boyfriend ordered the Dirty Rice with crabs and oysters: which he found very bland too. The best part of the main was the crispy fried chicken (perfect batter - however, needed some seasoning on the chicken itself) and the cornbread (this was delicious!). The dessert was a disaster; I let my boyfriend choose the dessert, expecting the waitress to add the candle to it. When the Calas came, there was nothing and to my disappointment, I understood that she forgot. Even worst, the Calas balls had a very weird taste, which we both did not like and eventually did not have them. When settling the cheque, I reminded the waitress about the 'birthday experience' and she told me there system crashed the day before and lost all of their data. She apologised and recommended nice 'after dinner' bars to hang out. She tried to be helpful, but the bullet was already gone and our experience at The Lockhart was unimpressive. It did not match our expectations and I wished I had chosen another restaurant to celebrate a birthday.

The service was appalling, they didn't seem to have half the menu so I can't really judge the food

Oh my goodness, this place is incredible! My husband and I went for our First Anniversary on Saturday and we can't wait for an excuse to go back. The wine list is great and the food immense. Best corn bread we've ever had. Thank you for a brilliant night!

The atmosphere is very relaxing and the staff are lovely. However the food (at least what we had ordered on that day which was rice with brown crab meat and oysters and cod) was actually not good at all and not good value. Neither of us managed to get passed 2 spoons of the dishes I'm afraid.
