I took my son for a trial last week. He was extremely shy, nervous and reluctant to go once he saw quite how big a space the foxes take up. The coach was very good at getting him on to the pitch. It all seemed to go down hill from there. I was observing the session and a little surprised by how things panned out. My son hasn’t been to any real football training sessions. Instructions were so brief that I myself struggled to understand what the drill was. I felt that it was so obvious he didn’t understand and no time was taken to clarify whether he understood or not. The worst though was how I witnessed the teammates speaking to him. At one point a child was literally shouting in his face . I’d like to think that this was simply not seen by the coach as opposed to ignored. I usually insist that my children see things to the end. Within 30 minutes I was itching to get my son out of there. He was paralysed with fear/ dread by the time we left and was emotional with relief as we walked away.
