I have been volunteering with Pompey Pirates for almost two years now and I absolutely love it. I was apprehensive at first but I soon settled in with the guidance and support of the “Captain” and fellow crew mates. Watching the children grow in confidence and having fun while learning is so rewarding and you get to work on some really interesting projects with them. I really enjoy reading time on a 1:1 basis where you can support each child and get to chat about the books..or anything else that comes up…which is quite often! The flexibility of different volunteering slots is also really great. I’m so glad I decided to volunteer with Pompey Pirates…if you’re thinking about it - just do it!

Volunteering with Pompey Pirates is fun and enjoyable, but more crucial is the satisfaction of being part of something that is so important and successful. The children are delightful and respond well to the fun filled lessons set in a pirate environment. They know that that each term’s work will lead to an exciting conclusion, and work hard. Our reward is to watch as their confidence, reading and writing ability visibly grow and know that we contributed to it.
