I visited The Limes for the first time recently, attending a Motown night that included a 3 course meal. I’ve driven past this venue so many times and was always put off by the black plasticky signage. I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh and modern it was inside. The bar is small and was very busy when we arrived. I’d suggest more staff or even upgrading to a table service/QR code ordering so people have choice. I know that costs money, but for big events it could work wonders in terms of customer satisfaction. There were cocktail offers on - 2 for 10. This was a bargain lots of people went for. I noticed they were bottled cocktails so stuck with classic G&T which were lovely. The food was good. I wasn’t too keen on the soup, but more or a personal preference than anything else. It was hot and tasted homemade. The chicken dish was also hot and very tender. The cheesecake reminded me of school dinner cheesecake. I don’t mean that in a bad way. It was so nostalgic! It really took me back and I loved it for that. The entertainment was fantastic and as soon was people started dancing the dance floor was packed. Toilets were clean, staff were lovely and the grounds are great. I’d love to see them again in the day so I can really appreciate them. A fab first visit and I would definitely attend an event here again.

Noteworthy details: While parts of the hotel were nice (room and shower (though small, was wonderfully powerful and warm) especially) the staff were overheard to say one was on their 3rd shift and had no idea what to do, had not been given any training. The breakfast in particular was just odd. No menus, only a very disorganised waitress who asked "full English?" With no options for eggs or description of what was actually included. If you wanted tea, a pot was brought, with milk in the bottom of the mug - no milk jugs. Chintzy 70's lift music was also bizarrely playing around the grounds and in hallways!
